This short review deals with some aspects of space charges in solid dielectrics, and, in particular, in polymeric materials. The relationship between space charges and prebreakdown events is discussed and the importance of space charges for the breakdown of solid dielectrics is emphasized.
In this study, Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Thermoplastic Starch (TPS) reinforced with different amounts of Starch Nanocrystals (SNCs) with and without Dicumyl Peroxide (DCP) were blended in an internal mixer. The XRD results showed that crystallinity decreases with increasing SNC content with and without DCP.…
This paper tries to relate Pedersen’s model on partial discharges and work carried out by Bruning and co-workers on the possibility of the existence of charging phenomena below inception voltage, which may eventually cause deterioration of polymeric insulation. Moreover, with the aid of the Electromagnetic theory, som…
On behalf of the Editorial Board, we are pleased to present a selection of papers related to the 11th International Symposium on Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF 2018) held in Darmstadt, Germany, on 10-12 April, 2018. The EMF Symposium series, whose first edition was held in Liège, Belgium, in 1992, aims at building…
We observe extremely high two photon absorption (TPA) of BiOBr nanoflakes using the Z-scan technique. We report a TPA coefficient as high as ~ 6.697 × 10-7 m/W – more than an order of magnitude larger than that of other 2D materials such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides.

Single-atom alloys can be effective catalysts and have been compared to supported single-atom catalysts. To rationally design single-atom alloys and other surfaces with localized ensembles, it is crucial to understand variations in reactivity when varying the dopant and the ensemble size. Here, we examined hydrogen ad…
We report a comprehensive inelastic neutron scattering study of the hybrid molecule-based multiferroic compound (ND4)2FeCl5D2O in the zero-field incommensurate cycloidal phase and the high-field quasi-collinear phase. The spontaneous electric polarization changes its direction concurrently with the field-induced magne…
Tetraphenylantimony pentafluoropropionate has been obtained by the substitution reaction between pentaphenylantimony and pentafluoropropionic acid and by the ligand redistribution reaction between pentaphenylantimony and triphenylantimony bis (pentafluoropropionate) with a yield up to 96 %. The compound has been ident…
Studying the thermal properties and obtaining the temperature dependences of the saturated vapor pressure of Sn (IV) complexes with tridentate iminopyridine ligands by differential scanning calorimetry and the Knudsen effusion method allows the studied compounds to be used to obtain films and coatings acting as lumine…
This paper presents the results of the preparation and study of multi-component ceramics with the perovskite structure, the composition of which reflects the formula (Mg,Ca,Ba,Sr,Pb,Al, Ti,Nb)O 3 . Samples were obtained by solid-phase synthesis. The initial components of the charge were powders of BaCO 3 , Nb 2 O 5 ,…
This paper presents SWOT and PEST analyzes on the Volkswagen Group example. In this paper we present the strengths and opportunities, but also the weaknesses and threats of the mentioned company. The Volkswagen Group demonstrates its strength through the strength of its brands, and the weaknesses are linked to non-com…
Vapour-Liquid-Solid (VLS) growth mechanism is a popular method for the growth of inorganic semiconducting nanowires (NWs) in the diameter range of sub-100 nm. A kinetic model is presented for the growth of elemental (Si) and binary (SiOx) NWs by incorporating all the atomistic parameters. Importantly, the model connec…
This paper presents a flexible printed sensor for the accurate detection of uric acid (UA) by a simple chemical route synthesis. The sensitive nanomaterial (N-rGO) was prepared from the dual interaction of 1,4-xylenediamine (XDA) and Graphene oxide (GO) by covalent and π - π stacking interaction. N-rGO was printed on…
This paper gives an overview of recently demonstrated sensors based on the nanomaterials synthesized on different flexible and disposable substrates. The sensors to be presented are for wide range of applications, e.g. detection of toxic heavy metals, diagnostic applications etc. During the talk, the suitable differen…
This paper presents the influence of solvents molecular geometry on the growth mechanism of ZnO nanorods and their morphology. We observed that the wurtzite hexagonal crystal system of ZnO offers a number of interacting sites at different positions for the solvent water and ethanol molecules to influence the aspect ra…
The article “ Density and thermal expansion coefficients of liquid and austenite phase in lamellar cast iron ”, written by Kristina Hellström, Vasile-Lucian Diaconu, Attila Diószegi , was originally published Online First without Open Access. After publication in volume 17, issue 2, page 127–136, the author decided to…
The provision of safe drinking water has been one of humanity’s most successful public health interventions and is a defining aspect of a devel+oped country. However, ignorance of the potential risks, inappropriate training of staff and managers working on drinking water systems still results in unnecessary waterborne…
Epitaxial graphene grown on metallic substrates presents, in several cases, a long-range periodic structure due to a lattice mismatch between the graphene and the substrate. For instance, graphene grown on Ir(111), displays a corrugated supercell with distinct adsorption sites due to a variation of its local electroni…
