Enhanced electrical conductivity in regioselectively synthesized poly(3-alkylthiophenes)

Richard D. McCullough、Renae D. Lowe1992-01-01OpenAlex

A regioselective synthetic method to poly(3-alkylthiophenes) provides structurally homogeneous poly(3-dodecylthiophene), which upon oxidation with I2 leads to polymers with average conductivities of 600 cm–1 and maximum conductivities of 1000 S cm–1.

Raman scattering and x-ray-absorption spectroscopy in gallium nitride under high pressure

P. Perlin、C Jauberthie-Carillon、Jean Paul Itié 等 6 位作者1992-01-01OpenAlex

Gallium nitride was studied by Raman scattering and x-ray-absorption spectroscopy up to 60 GPa. A high-pressure structural phase transition was observed in gallium nitride at 47 GPa by means of Raman scattering and x-ray-absorption spectroscopy. We also report the direct determination of the bulk modulus ${\mathit{B}}…

Numerical determination of hysteresis parameters for the modeling of magnetic properties using the theory of ferromagnetic hysteresis

David Jiles、J.B. Thoelke、M. K. Devine1992-01-01OpenAlex

The authors describe how the various model parameters needed to describe hysteresis on the basis of the Jiles-Atherton theory can be calculated from experimental measurements of the coercivity, remanence, saturation magnetization, initial anhysteretic susceptibility, initial normal susceptibility, and maximum differen…

Silicate as regulating nutrient in phytoplankton competition

JK Egge、DL Aksnes1992-01-01OpenAlex

The development of phytoplankton communities was studied in floating enclosures. The enclosures were supplied with either surface water or water from 40 m depth. Nutrients with or without silicate were added in some of the experiments, while others recieved no artificial fertilization. It is shown that diatom dominanc…

Edible Wheat Gluten Films: Influence of the Main Process Variables on Film Properties using Response Surface Methodology

Nathalie Gontard、Stéphane Guilbert、Jean-Louis Cuq1992-01-01OpenAlex

ABSTRACT An edible wheat gluten film was developed and effects of gluten concentration, ethanol concentration (ET) and pH of the film‐forming solution on various film properties were evaluated using Response Surface Methodology. pH and ethanol concentration had strong interactive effects on film opacity, water solubil…

Antibacterial action of chitosan

Nikita Sudarshan、Dallas G. Hoover、Dietrich Knorr1992-01-01OpenAlex

The antibacterial action of chitosan hydroglutamate (CH), chitosan lactate (CL) and chitosan derived from fungal mycelia was examined against both gram‐negative and gram‐positive bacteria. Plate counts indicated inactivation rates of one‐ to five‐log‐cycles within one hour. Fungal chitosan had significantly less antib…

Theory for displacive excitation of coherent phonons

H. J. Zeiger、J. Vidal、T. K. Cheng 等 6 位作者1992-01-01OpenAlex

We report femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe reflection experiments in semimetals and semiconductors that show large-amplitude oscillations with periods characteristic of lattice vibrations. Only ${\mathit{A}}_{1}$ modes are detected, although modes with other symmetries are observed with comparable intensity in Ram…

Configurational bias Monte Carlo: a new sampling scheme for flexible chains

Jörn Ilja Siepmann、Daan Frenkel1992-01-01OpenAlex

We propose a novel approach that allows efficient numerical simulation of systems consisting of flexible chain molecules. The method is especially suitable for the numerical simulation of dense chain systems and monolayers. A new type of Monte Carlo move is introduced that makes it possible to carry out large scale co…

Contact angle, wetting, and adhesion: a critical review

Robert J. Good1992-01-01OpenAlex

The theory of the contact angle of pure liquids on solids, and of the determination of the surface free energy of solids, γs, is reviewed. The basis for the three components γLW s, γ⊕s, and γ⊖s is developed, and an algebraic expression for these properties in terms of measured contact angles is presented. The inadequa…

Phase Diagrams of the Elements

D. A. Young1991-12-31OpenAlex

The behavior of solid and liquid matter at high pressures and temperatures is best described in a phase diagram, which shows the regions of stability of different phases of the material. Thanks to the diamond-anvil cell, which has made possible much higher pressures, and to new and very accurate theoretical models and…

Ferroelectric PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 thin films on epitaxial Y-Ba-Cu-O

R. Ramesh、A. Inam、W.K. Chan 等 9 位作者1991-12-30Applied Physics Letters

We have fabricated epitaxial ferroelectric PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3/YBa2Cu3O7−x heterostructures on single crystalline [001] LaAlO3. Only the (00l) peaks of the PbZr0.2Ti0.8O3 (PZT) film are observed, indicating that the epitaxial, c-axis oriented YBCO film is a good structural template for the heteroepitaxial growth of PZT fil…
