Self-Consistent Energy Bands and Cohesive Energy of Potassium Chloride

P. D. DeCicco1967-01-15Physical Review

The valence and conduction bands of potassium chloride were determined by the augmented-plane-wave method from a potential of a more general functional form than that usually assumed in this method. With a few iterations of the band calculation within the Hartree-Fock-Slater (HFS) approximation, a good degree of self-…

Biotite Flakes: Alteration by Chemical and Biological Treatment

J. R. Boyle、G. K. Voigt、B. L. Sawhney1967-01-13Science

Biotite alteration under acid conditions proceeds differently from the generally accepted pathway of transformation to vermiculite in which hydrated cations cause interlayer expansion, resulting in a dark-colored peripheral band on mica particles. Acid solutions of synthetic or biologic origin remove octahedral ions,…

Single-Ion Magnetostriction in the Iron Group Monoxides from the Strain Dependence of Electron-Paramagnetic-Resonance Spectra

T. G. Phillips、Robert L. White1967-01-10Physical Review

The single-ion contribution to magnetostriction in the transition metal monoxides NiO, MnO, FeO, and CoO is calculated on a very simple model and found to account for substantially all the observed magnetostriction. Exchange is included in a molecular-field approximation, and the single-ion magnetoelastic parameters $…

Energy Transfer in Ruby

G. F. Imbusch1967-01-10Physical Review

The transfer of energy from single chromium ions to closely coupled pairs of chromium ions in ruby has been investigated. Ruby samples whose concentrations ranged from 0.003 to 1.0% ${\mathrm{Cr}}_{2}$${\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ were prepared and in each crystal the intensity of single-ion fluorescence and of pair fluorescence…

COLLAGEN CHEMISTRY IN RELATION TO ISINGLASS AND ISINGLASS FININGS-A REVIEW

A. A. Leach1967-01-02Journal of the Institute of Brewing

The significance of present knowledge of the structure of the protein collagen to the study of isinglass and the finings derived from it is examined. It is suggested that differences in fining efficiency of solutions prepared by identical processes from different sources of isinglass are due to variations in the size…

Studies on the Desilicification from High Silica-containing Kraft Liquors Part I

Zenshiro Isono、Kazuki ONO1967-01-01Nippon Nōgeikagaku Kaishi

As a method to desilicify from black liquor containing silica in rich amount, carbon dioxide process was investigated. Particularly, the relation between the final pH of the black liquor and the removal percentage of silica by the carbon dioxide treatment was clarified. Further, based on the obtained knowledge of the…

Sintering Characteristics of Indian Magnesites Up to 2,000°C

Joydipta Banerjee、S. Banerjee、N. R. Sircar1967-01-01Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society

The phenomenological effects of calcination as expressed by such properties as shrinkage, specific gravity, bulk density and porosity were investigated on magnesites from different sources in India, over temperatures ranging from 600°C to 2000°C. No single property is adequate to assess properly the quality of a magne…

Polynuclear Complexes of Cobalt(III) Ammines

Arthur W. Chester1967-01-01Advances in chemistry series

The chemistry of non-peroxo polynuclear cobalt(III) ammines is reviewed with particular emphasis on Werner's major contributions. Modern work in this area has shown that Werner's conclusions regarding the structures of these compounds are substantially correct in spite of the relatively primitive techniques he had ava…

Morphology of solution‐crystallized polypropylene

D. R. Morrow、J. A. Sauer、A. E. Woodward1967-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract Results are presented of the structures obtained upon crystallization of polypropylene from dilute solutions in α ‐chloronaphthalene. It is shown that under proper conditions of concentration and crystallization, isotactic polypropylene can be caused to grow in the form of lath‐shaped single‐crystal lamellae.…

Thermal Decomposition of Magnesium Acetate Tetra-Hydrate

Kazuo MANABE、Teruichiro KUBO1967-01-01The Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry Japan

Powder Rolling of Sendust Alloys and Their Electromagnetic Properties

Toranosuke Kawaguchi、Kiyoshi Tamura、Hiroshi Yamamoto1967-01-01Journal of the Japan Society of Powder and Powder Metallurgy

Sendust Fe-Si-Al ternary alloys have high saturation flux density, low coercive force and high resistivity. Moreover, they are strong against wear, so efforts have been devoted to make use of these alloys as the video-tape-recorder head materials. These alloys are too hard and brittle to be made into thin sheets by ro…
