Crystalline Titanate Ceramic Nuclear Waste Forms: Processing and Microstructure

R.G. Dosch、T.J. Headley、Paul F. Hlava1984-05-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

A process leading to titanate‐based crystalline ceramic waste forms for commercial high‐level nuclear waste is described. Precursor materials referred to as hydrous calcium titanates are prepared by sol‐gel‐related techniques. Radionuclides are retained on the precursors by ion‐exchange/sorption reactions and the mate…

Thermal expansion and Grüneisen parameters of isotropic and oriented polyethylene

G. K. White、C. L. Choy1984-05-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The linear thermal expansion coefficients α of three isotropic samples (crystallinity v = 0.42‐0.8) and one oriented sample (v = 0.8, draw ratio 11) of polyethylene have been measured between 2 and 100 K. Together with our previous measurements at high temperatures, these data provide general patterns for the…

Calibration of ac susceptometer for cylindrical specimens

Ron Goldfarb、J.V. Minervini1984-05-01Review of Scientific Instruments

The absolute magnetic susceptibility of cylindrical specimens is obtained with an ac susceptometer whose calibration is based on a calculation of mutual inductance. An axially magnetized cylinder is modeled as a solenoid of the same size. The mutual inductance between such a solenoid and a pickup coil of arbitrary dim…

Reflection electron-energy-loss investigation of the electronic and structural properties of palladium

G. Chiarello、E. Colavita、M. De Crescenzi 等 4 位作者1984-05-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The versatility of electron-energy-loss spectroscopy for investigating the electronic as well as the structural properties of a bulk sample is shown. The technique should be considered a powerful tool for ranging from low to high energies in the same experimental apparatus. The electronic properties of palladium are i…

Compatibility of poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(styrene‐co‐acrylonitrile) (SAN) blends. II. The influence of the AN content in SAN copolymer upon blend compatibility

Shao‐Cheng Chiu、Theodore G. Smith1984-05-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The compatibility of polymer blends of poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL) and poly(styrene‐co‐acrylonitrile) (SAN) containing various acrylonitrile (AN) contents was studied to evaluate the influences of copolymer composition and PCL concentration upon blend compatibility. Blend compatibility was characterized by the…

Crystal structure of diamondlike carbon films prepared by ionized deposition from methane gas

Toshio Mōri、Yoshikatsu Namba1984-05-01Journal of Applied Physics

Diamondlike carbon films have been prepared by ionized deposition from methane gas. The film structures were examined by transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis techniques. It was found that the structure of the carbon films could be classified into three…

Polypeptide composition of rat sperm outer dense fibers. A simple procedure to isolate the fibrillar complex.

Juan Carlos Vera、Michael dos Santos Brito、Tatiana Zuvić 等 4 位作者1984-05-01Journal of Biological Chemistry

Treatment of caput or cauda epididymal rat sperm with a low concentration (0.05%) of the cationic detergent cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and 30 mM 2-mercaptoethanol solubilized most of the sperm structures except for the sperm head and the outer dense fiber-connecting piece complex. The latter were purified, and abo…

Sinusoidal Pulsewidth Modulation Strategy for the Delta Inverter

Peter Evans、R.C. Dodson、J. Fred Eastham1984-05-01IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications

A method by which sinusoidal pulsewidth modulation can be implemented on the delta inverter is described. Analysis of the resulting waveforms, in terms of the exponential form of the Fourier series, is provided, along with a comparison of harmonic content with a conventional sinusoidally modulated waveform. Experiment…

Free radical decay kinetics in PMMA bone cement

R. C. Turner1984-05-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

Electron-spin resonance has been used to measure the decay of the concentration of polymerization radicals in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) bone cement and the kinetics of the decay determined. Thermal annealing at various temperatures has shown that the logarithm of the concentration of radicals varies linearly with…

Elastic and pseudoviscous properties of coal under quasi-static and impact loadings

J. R. Klepaczko、Tai–Ran Hsu、M.N. Bassim1984-05-01Canadian Geotechnical Journal

An investigation of the elastic and viscoelastic properties of Nova Scotia coal was carried out over a wide range of strain rates (quasi-static to impact). High resolution stress–strain diagrams for the coal were obtained from compression tests for the lower and medium strain rates up to [Formula: see text] and with t…

Armand R. Tanguay、B. H. Soffer、Pierre Chavel 等 5 位作者1984-05-01Optics Letters

The principal features of the liquid-crystal molecular orientation within the variable-grating-mode liquid-crystal device have been determined as a function of the applied voltage across the cell by measurement of the polarization properties of light diffracted by the liquid-crystal birefringent phase grating.

J. Elad、J. M. Schultz1984-05-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract Melt‐spun nylon 66 fibers were drawn and subsequently heat treated isothermally and quenched. The heat‐treated fibers were then examined by wide‐and small‐angle x‐ray scattering (WAXS and SAXS), by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and by static mechanical testing. These measurements allow one to follo…
