A multiphoton process to the conduction band of the insulator Er2O3 is reported, which occurs in vacuum under near infrared excitation. The enormous upconversion intensity is two orders of magnitude greater than that in air, and also the intensity ratio for green and red emission bands is inverted. The mechanism is pr…

We present a theoretical study on interactions of electrons in graphene with surface acoustic waves (SAWs). We find that owing to momentum and energy conservation laws, the electronic transition accompanied by the SAW absorption cannot be achieved via inter-band transition channels in graphene. For graphene, strong ab…

We consider an approach to the derivation of thermodynamic equations of state by averaging the dynamic equations of particles of the crystal lattice. Microscopic analogs of macroscopic variables such as pressure, volume, and thermal energy are introduced. An analysis of the introduced variables together with the equat…

A novel biaxial nematic phase is theoretically predicted in mixtures of a low-molecular-weight liquid crystalline molecule and a rigid rod-like polymer, such as carbon nanotubes and liquid crystalline polymers, where the two components favour a mutually perpendicular orientation. We demonstrate that rods dispersed in…

Abstract We have fabricated a prototype of a field‐sequential blue phase mode LCD having an integrated scan driver including an oxide semiconductor FET. By using the blue phase mode, the frame rate of 180 fps a subframe frequency of 540 Hz or higher is now available. We obtained favorable images without color breakup.
