The Join Ca 2 SiO 4 ‐CaMgSiO 4

CHARLES M. SCHLAUDT、Della M. Roy1966-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

New data obtained on the join Ca 2 SiO 4 ‐CaMgSiO 4 established a limit of crystalline solubility of Mg in α‐Ca 2 SiO 4 corresponding to the composition Ca 1.90 Mg 0.10 SiO 4 at 1575°C. The α‐α’Ca 2 SiO 4 inversion temperature is lowered from 1447° to 1400°C by Mg substitution in the lattice. α'‐Ca 2 SiO 4 takes Mg in…

The mechanism of dimensional changes in the crystals of graphites and carbons under fast neutron irradiation

B.T. Kelly、W.H. Martin、A.M. Price 等 4 位作者1966-08-01Philosophical magazine

The accumulation of irradiation damage in graphite crystals under neutron irradiation at temperatures between 150°c and 650°c is discussed using recent ideas on nucleation of planar clusters of interstitial atoms and the collapse of lines of vacant lattice sites produced by chance sequences of atomic displacement. It…

Simulative Studies of Upward Drilling

T. Busby、Jon Barker1966-08-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The corrosion of downward‐facing surfaces has often been associated with the presence of gas bubbles. Model work with methanol‐water and other systems has shown that rapid upward drilling does occur around gas bubbles. A mechanism is suggested which could also be applied to flux‐line attack.

Narrow molecular weight distribution poly(styrenesulfonic acid). Part I. Preparation, solution properties, and phase separation

William R. Carroll、Henryk Eisenberg1966-08-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract A method is described for the conversion of polystyrene to poly(styrenesulfonic acid) without change in the molecular weight distribution; the reaction is performed at room temperature in 100% H 2 SO 4 and uses Ag + catalyst. The resulting polyelectrolyte has solubility and other characteristics significantly…

Influence of Molecular Rotation on the Viscosity of Liquids

D.B. Davies、A. J. Matheson1966-08-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

Although certain liquids show Arrhenius viscosity behavior over the whole liquid range, most liquids have a substantial non-Arrhenius range in which their viscosity is described by the free-volume equation. In a few supercooled liquids, there are two distinct non-Arrhenius regions. From a calculation of the volumes re…

ESR Spectra of Exchange-Coupled Mn2+ Ions in ZnS and CdS

Yuichiro Ishikawa1966-08-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The ESR spectra of the powder samples of cubic ZnS:Mn, hexagonal ZnS:Mn, and CdS:Mn are treated theoretically for the case where the exchange interaction exists between the Mn 2+ ions. The comparison of the calculation with experiments indicates that, for a pair of Mn 2+ ions, the resonance spectra are well described…

Epitaxial crystallization of homopolymers on single crystals of alkali halides

James A. Koutsky、A. G. Walton、Eric Baer1966-08-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract Epitaxial deposition of homopolymers from solution [polyethylene, isotactic polystyrene, poly‐3,3‐bischloromethyloxacyclobutane (Penton) and polypropylene] was found on the (001) faces of cleaved alkali halide single crystals. Electron and optical microscopy studies have shown that the polymer usually grew fr…

Effect of Pressure on the Lattice Parameters of Iodine, Stannic Iodide, and p-Di-iodobenzene

R. W. Lynch、H. G. Drickamer1966-08-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The effect of pressure to over 200 kbars has been measured on the lattice parameters of iodine, stannic iodide, and of p-di-iodobenzene. All three have a large component of van der Waals binding and each exhibits a compressibility which decreases with increasing pressure. On the basis of the estimated change in distan…

THE ELECTRICAL PROPERTIES OF ALUMINA AT HIGH TEMPERATURES

T. Matsumura1966-08-01Canadian Journal of Physics

The ionic transport number and the d-c. electrical conductivity of single-crystal and polycrystalline alumina have been studied between 1 000 °K and 1 750 °K at an oxygen partial pressure of 0.2 atm. The ionic transport number was determined by the galvanic-cell e.m.f. measurements; the electrical conductivity was mea…
