The Thermal Conductivity on Rigid Urethane Foams

G.W. Ball、Randy Hurd、Martin G. Walker1970-03-01Journal of Cellular Plastics

The last decade has featured major advancesin the technology and chemistry of urethane rigidfoams. Facile processing characteristics combined with unique physical properties-some still not yetfully explored-continue to create novel applica-tions, the latest being their use for the manufacture of chair shells (1). The…

The contamination of surfaces during high-energy electron irradiation

R. K. Hart、T.F. Kassner、Jan K. Maurin1970-03-01Philosophical magazine

Specimen contamination during electron-optical examination has been studied using “holey’ carbon-film specimens in a modified electron microscope. The composition of the residual gas atmosphere was determined by mass-spectrometric analysis. The gas pressure in the vicinity of the specimen was reduced to between 10−5 a…

Electron spin resonance studies of polycarbonate irradiated by γ‐rays and ultraviolet light

Yoshimasa Hama、Ken‐ichi Shinohara1970-03-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-1 Polymer Chemistry

Abstract Paramagnetic species produced in polycarbonate (PC) by γ‐ or ultraviolet irradiation were investigated by ESR. In γ‐irradiation, scissions of carbonate groups in the main chain occur. ESR spectra ( g = 2.003 4 ) composed of a sharp singlet, some broad singlets, and a small signal with hyperfine structure are…

Optical Constants of the Eu Chalcogenides Above and Below the Magnetic Ordering Temperatures

G. Güntherodt、J. Schoenes、P. Wächter1970-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

The optical constants of the Eu chalcogenides between 1 and 6 eV have been obtained by means of a reflection technique for single crystals and transmission measurements for evaporated thin films. The films have been cooled below the magnetic transition temperature and the transmission was measured with linearly and ci…

Magnetic Properties and Structure of GdN and GdN1−xOx

R. J. Gambino、T. R. McGuire、H. A. Alperin 等 4 位作者1970-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

GdN is shown to be ferromagnetic but small amounts of oxygen (GdN1−xOx with x≈0.05) cause paramagnetism and short-range antiferromagnetic order to set in. We attribute this to nearest-neighbor interactions having opposite sign.

Quantitative Evaluation of Flame-Retardant Cotton Finishes by the Limiting-Oxygen Index (LOI) Technique

John J. Willard、Richard E. Wondra1970-03-01Textile Research Journal

The limiting oxygen index (LOI) technique provides a quantitative measure of reduced ftammability for fabrics over broad ranges of chemical treatment. Several conventional flame-retardant finishes for cellulosics gave linear LOI relationships with phosphorus content when compared at fixed nitrogen/phosphorus ratios. T…

Polarized Infrared Spectra of TCNQ and TCNQ-d4 Single Crystals

Bruno Lunelli、C. Pecile1970-03-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The infrared-active vibrations of the TCNQ molecular structure have been investigated by using the spectra of the powder and those of the (001) and (010) crystal planes in polarized radiation for both TCNQ and its fully deuterated analog. These measurements give most of the significant indications which can be drawn f…

Study of the Electron Optical Properties of an Electron Spectrograph with Coaxial Cylindrical Electrodes

S. Aksela、M. Karras、M. Pessa 等 4 位作者1970-03-01Review of Scientific Instruments

The article gives a general treatment of the electron optical properties of cylindrical electron spectrographs. The resolution, the transmission, and the ratio of them (figure of merit) for electrostatic spectrographs are computed and compared for various choices of focusing arrangement and location of the source and…

Electron Microscopic Particle Length of F-Actin Polymerized in Vitro

Masaru Kawamura、Kosçak Maruyama1970-03-01The Journal of Biochemistry

Particle length and the influence of various factors on the particle length of F-actin polymerized in Vitro were investigated in detail by electron microscopy. The length distribution of F-actin was found to be very heterogeneous; e.g. te number- average length (〈L〉n) was abut 1.5μ, the weight-average length (〈L〉w) wa…
