Fabrication and characterisation of ferroelectric perovskite lead indium niobate

Paul D. Groves1985-07-01Ferroelectrics

Fabrication techniques are investigated with a view to producing single phase perovskite lead indium niobate (PbIn1/2Nb1/2O3). The physical properties of ceramics produced using the various techniques are investigated. The dielectric relaxation of lead indium niobate is also characterised.

Oxidation and Ozonation of Rubber

Robert W. Keller1985-07-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract With the wide variety of elastomers, fillers, and other compounding ingredients available today, there is increasing demand for rubber compounds with specific properties. The systematic development of the desired rubber compound can be undermined by the exposure of the compound to oxygen and ozone during use.…

Defect luminescence in cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet

Stanley R. Rotman、Cardinal Warde1985-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

The absorption and photoluminescence of lattice defects and of the cerium ion (Ce+3) in cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet have been measured after annealing single crystals of this material in various reducing atmospheres. The absorption in the 200–300-nm wavelength range is observed to decrease as the partial pres…

Oxidation of Silicon Nitride Sintered with Rare‐Earth Oxide Additions

Diane M. Mieskowski、William A. Sanders1985-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The effects of rare‐earth oxide additions on the oxidation of sintered Si 3 N 4 were examined. Insignificant oxidation occurred at 700o and 1000oC, with no evidence of phase instability. At 1372oC, the oxidation rate was lowest for Y203 and increased for additions of La 2 O 3 , Sm 2 O 3 , and CeO 2 , in that order. Da…

Formation of Secondary Minerals in Artificially Weathered Fly Ash

C. James Warren、M. J. Dudas1985-07-01Journal of Environmental Quality

Abstract A leaching experiment was designed to evaluate the chemical, mineralogical, and morphological nature of precipitation products formed during the accelerated laboratory weathering of an alkaline fly ash. The ash, classified as alkaline Modic, was leached with 0.005 mol L −1 H 2 SO 4 in a series of five leachin…

Vacuum surface flashover: A high-pressure phenomenon

Eoin W. Gray1985-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

Desorbed gases from insulator surfaces may be much more important in flashover initiation than properties of the dielectric surface. Ambient neutral densities, immediately above the insulator surface, in the initial stages of flashover have been calculated to lie in the range from 2×1017/cm3 to 2×1021/cm3 with a mean…

Studies on the melt flow behavior of thermoplastic elastomers from polypropylene—Natural rubber blends

Baby Kuriakose、S. K. De1985-07-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The melt flow behavior of thermoplastic polypropylenenatural rubber blends has been evaluated with specific reference to the effects of blend ratio, extent of dynamic crosslinking of the rubber phase and temperature, on viscosity, flow behavior index, and deformation of the extrudate. The proportion of rubber…

Dynamic Surface Wetness of Fabrics in Relation to Clothing Comfort

Diane M. Scheurell、Steven M. Spivak、Norman R. S. Hollies1985-07-01Textile Research Journal

Moisture from perspiration collects in and passes through clothing as worn, and the properties of clothing fabrics influence both the collection and passage of this moisture. The selection and measure of moisture properties that relate to comfort in wear has proved to be more difficult than first perceived. Dynamic su…

Structure‐Property Relations in Lanthanide Borate Glasses

Indra Narayan Chakraborty、Delbert E. Day、Josef C. Lapp 等 4 位作者1985-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Glass formation in the system Ln 2 O 3 ‐B 2 O 3 (Ln = Nd, Sm) was studied. Glasses could be formed in the range from 0 to ‐28 mol% rare‐earth oxide (Ln 2 O 3 ), but liquid immiscibility in these systems limits the range of homogeneous glasses to 0 to 1.5 and 25 to 28 mol% Ln 2 O 3 . The infrared spectra indicate that…

Critical Aspects of Measurement of Circular and Linear Dichroism: A Device for Absolute Calibration

Bengt Nordén、Stefan Seth1985-07-01Applied Spectroscopy

The polarization effect of one or several tilted, parallel air-spaced fused silica plates is calculated. It is generally necessary to include higher order reflections. A device consisting of 1–4 plates tilted 10–45° from normal incidence is proposed for the calibration of differential linear dichroism (LD) in the meas…

B. Masiulanis、Ryszard Zieliński1985-07-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Linear polyurethaneimide elastomers (PUI) were obtained from polyether‐ or polyester‐diols, diphenylmethane diisocyanate or bitolylene diisocyanate and pyromellitic acid dianhydride. It was found that these polymers have considerably better mechanical properties than typical linear polyurethanes (PU). The ela…
