Secondary Emission from Polymers

E.A. Burke1980-12-01IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

The available data on secondary emission yields from electron bombarded polymers was reviewed to identify those features they have in common with metals and inorganic insulators. As in the case of the more widely studied materials it was found that when the yield δ obtained at a bombarding electron energy Eo, is divid…

Li12Si7, a Compound Having a Trigonal Planar Si4 Cluster and Planar Si5 Rings

Hans Georg̀ von Schnering、Reinhard Nesper、Jan Čurda 等 4 位作者1980-12-01Angewandte Chemie International Edition in English

Three-pointed planar Si4 stars with unelucidated bonding and planar Si5 rings have been found in Li12Si7. In the formulation shown below with x = 4 and y = 10 the star could be an excited tetrahedrane state as Si; for x = y = 8 the star would be Si and isoelectronic with the carbonate ion.

The Chemical Nature of Aluminum Corrosion: III . The Dissolution Mechanism of Aluminum Oxide and Aluminum Powder in Various Electrolytes

Trung Nguyen、R. T. Foley1980-12-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Attention was focused on the first steps in the pitting process, the adsorption of aggressive anions and the dissolution of aluminum oxide. The adsorption of chloride on alumina and aluminum powder are quite similar and show a saturation plateau at high chloride concentration; the amount of chloride adsorbed is propor…

Cation vacancies and the crystal chemistry of breakdown reactions in kimberlitic omphacites

Joseph R. Smyth1980-12-01American Mineralogist

The degree of alteration in clinopyroxenes from eclogitic inclusions in South African kimberlites is directly related to the deviation from stoichiometry of remnant unaltered areas in individual grains. Deviations from stoichiometry are reconciled by allowing up to 9% vacancy in the M2 site. The breakdown reaction acc…

Stress calculations for interfacial extrinsic and intrinsic dislocation arrays in anisotropic two-phase media

R. Bonnet、M. Dupeux1980-12-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

Explicit expressions are given for the stress fields of extrinsic or intrinsic boundary dislocation arrays on the basis of recent results concerning the elastic properties of interfacial dislocations. It is shown that these stress fields differ only by constant terms. Examples of α-β brass boundaries illustrate anisot…

Electron correlations and electron-lattice interactions in the metal-insulator, ferroelastic transition in VO2: A thermodynamical study

Daniel Paquet、P. Leroux-Hugon1980-12-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We present a model of the V${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ phase transition which incorporates both electron-electron and electron-lattice interactions and accounts for the presence of two $d$ bands (${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{*}$ and ${d}_{\ensuremath{\parallel}}$) overlapping at the Fermi level of the metallic phase. Attention is give…

The influence of TiO2 on the structure and derivative properties of silicate melts

B. O. Mysen、Frederick J. Ryerson、David Virgo1980-12-01American Mineralogist

The influence of TiO, on the structure of silicate melts has been determined at I atm pressure by laser Raman spectroscopy. The following melt compositions were used: CaSiOr, CaMgSirOu, NarSiOr, NaAlSi3Os, CaAl2OE, and NarTiOr. Titanium is in four-fold coordination in all melts studied, as there are no Raman bands bel…

The roles of hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin in the mechanical properties of connective tissues.

H. Oxlund、T. T. Andreassen1980-12-01PubMed

Biomechanical testing of connective tissue is usually done on whole tissue. Studies of the mechanical properties of each component of the tissue, however, are important for elucidating the connection between the functional properties and the molecular structure. Enzymic degradation of one component at a time followed…

A Nonlinear Theory of Viscoelasticity for Application to Elastomers

Richard M. Christensen1980-12-01Journal of Applied Mechanics

A simple nonlinear theory of viscoelasticity has been developed for application to elastomers. The theory is the viscoelastic generalization of the kinetic theory of rubber elasticity, and it is used to model time and rate-dependent effects. The method of derivation reveals that the theory is applicable to stress-impo…

The action of tin compounds in condensation‐type RTV silicone rubbers

F. W. VAN DER WEIJ1980-12-01Die Makromolekulare Chemie

Abstract The vulcanization of RTV (=room temperature vulcanizing) silicone rubbers under the action of organotin compounds is investigated. The mechanism for the cure is inferred from the chemical properties of a variety of relevant organotin compounds and is illustrated with the reactions that occur when dialkyltin d…

Polarised neutron study of the RCo5intermetallic compounds. I. The cobalt magnetisation in YCo5

J. Schweizer、F. Tasset1980-12-01Journal of Physics F Metal Physics

Polarised and unpolarised neutron measurements have been carried out on a YCo 5 single crystal. These have allowed the crystal structure to be refined and the magnetisation density distribution of this compound to be determined. The analysis of these results indicates that the moment of one of the two cobalt sites (Co…

Infrared dispersion in SrTiO3at high temperature

J. L. Servoin、Y. Luspin、François Gervais1980-12-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Infrared reflection spectra of strontium titanate are reported as obtained with a scanning interferometer from room temperature up to 1200 K. A fit of the factorized form of the dielectric function to reflectivity data yields the temperature dependence of TO and LO frequencies, dampings, and TO oscillator strengths. T…

Effect of pH and neutral salts upon the swelling of cellulose gels

Jean Grignon、A. M. Scallan1980-12-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

The swelling of cellulose gel is considered to be caused by an osmotic pressure differential resulting from a difference in concentration of mobile ions between the interior of the gel and the exterior solution. The fundamental feature within the gel, bringing about the unequal distribution, is the presence of ionizin…

V. C. Farmer、James Russell、M. L. Berrow1980-12-01Journal of Soil Science

Summary Examination by infrared spectroscopy and electron microscopy of the fine clays (<0.5 μm) dispersed at pH 3.5 from H 2 O 2 ‐treated soil indicates that imogolite and proto‐imogolite allophanes are concentrated in podzolic B 2 and B 3 horizons, and make up at least 6 percent of one B 2 horizon soil, which con…

Mechanically ruled aberration-corrected concave gratings

Tatsuo Harada、Toshiaki Kita1980-12-01Applied Optics

Precise Identification of Illite/Smectite Interstratifications by X-Ray Powder Diffraction

Jan Środoń1980-12-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract The thickness of the two-layer ethylene glycol complex of dioctahedral smectites varies under room conditions between 17.3 and 16.5 Å because of such factors as layer charge density, type of interlayer cation, and relative humidity. Neglecting this variability can give up to 30% error in the X-ray powder diff…
