The flow stress of aluminium and copper at high temperatures

P. B. Hirsch、D. H. Warrington1961-06-01Philosophical magazine

The ratio of the flow stress at a high temperature to that at O°C has been measured for polycrystalline Al and Cu, and for single crystals of Al. In Al the flow stress decreases ratio strongly with temperature above a certain critica1 temperature (about 250°C). In Cu a similar but more gradual decrease in the flow str…

Study of the Low-Temperature Transition in Magnetite and the Internal Fields Acting on Iron Nuclei in Some Spinel Ferrites, Using Mössbauer Absorption

R. Bauminger、S. G. Cohen、A. Marinov 等 5 位作者1961-06-01Physical Review

A study has been made of the internal fields acting on ${\mathrm{Fe}}^{57}$ nuclei in some spinel ferrites, with particular reference to the low-temperature order-disorder transition in magnetite, using the techniques of M\"ossbauer absorption. For the ${\mathrm{Fe}}^{3+}$ ions at both the octahedral and tetrahedral s…

Analysis of the Absorption and Fluorescence Spectrum of NdCl3 Diluted with LaCl3

Eugene Y. Wong1961-06-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The Stark splitting of the identified levels of Nd+3 in LaCl3 were calculated by first-order perturbation. Intermediate coupling wave functions and crystal-field interaction parameters reported by Judd were used. The calculated spectrum agrees with the spectrum observed by Carlson to 5 cm—1.

Theory of Magnetostatic Modes in Long, Axially Magnetized Cylinders

R. I. Joseph、Ernst Schlömann1961-06-01Journal of Applied Physics

The characteristic equation determining the eigenfrequencies of the magnetostatic modes is derived from the equations of motion and the boundary conditions. The solutions may be classified as pertaining to surface and to volume modes. Surface-mode solutions exist only for sufficiently small wave numbers, and their eig…

Effect of Pressure on the Resistance of Iodine and Selenium

A. S. Balchan、H. G. Drickamer1961-06-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The effect of pressure from 60 to over 400 kbar has been measured on the resistance of selenium and iodine. Selenium exhibits a very rapid drop in resistance between 60 and 128 kbar; at 128 kbar it shows a discontinuous drop. At higher pressures its behavior is apparently metallic. Iodine shows a rapid drop in resista…

Thermal Conductivity of CaF2, MnF2, CoF2, and ZnF2Crystals

Glen A. Slack1961-06-01Physical Review

The thermal conductivity of single crystals of Ca${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, Mn${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, Co${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$, and Zn${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$ has been measured over the temperature range from 3\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K to 300\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K. In this series, Ca${\mathrm{F}}_{2}$ and Zn${\mat…

Energy, Specific Heat, and Magnetic Properties of the Low-Density Electron Gas

W. J. Carr1961-06-01OpenAlex

A perturbation expansion in powers of ${{r}_{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{2}}$ has been used to investigate the ground-state energy of a dilute electron gas, the result being, in rydberg units per particle, $E=\ensuremath{-}\frac{1.792}{{r}_{s}}+\frac{2.66}{{{r}_{s}}^{\frac{3}{2}}}+\frac{b}{{{r}_{s}}^{2}}+O(\frac{1}{{{…

The TiO2 phase explored by the lattice constant and density method

M. E. Straumanis、Tatsuhiko Ejima、W. J. James1961-05-10Acta Crystallographica

Samples of TiO 2 of various colours (bluish black to yellowish white) were obtained by heating TiO2 at 1400 C. under oxygen of increasing pressure. At that temperature the dissociation pressure is about 2/3 arm. (in oxygen). The homogeneity region of the phase extends from about TiO~.gsa to TiO2.000 (39.845 to 40.05%…

Comparative Wool Scouring Studies

V.A. Williams1961-05-01Textile Research Journal

In laboratory trials on samples from individual fleeces solvent degreasing has shown a higher yield than aqueous alkaline scouring. Differences of 0.5% to 1.4% of clean dry fiber are found when solvent degreasing is compared with traditional soap-soda scouring. Evidence is presented showing that the difference in yiel…

Biaxial Fatigue Testing Of Vulcanizates

S. D. Gehman、P. Rohall、D. I. Livingston1961-05-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract Extensive fatigue tests of vulcanizates of natural rubber and SBR were carried out using a cycle of alternate stretching in two perpendicular directions. It is shown that the data can be best handled statistically by assuming a lognormal distribution or by the use of extreme probability techniques. Illustrati…

Thermal stability of polydivinylbenzene and of copolymers of styrene with divinylbenzene and with trivinylbenzene

Sidney Straus、S. L. Madorsky1961-05-01Journal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards Section A Physics and Chemistry

Samples of polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) and of copolymers of styrene with divinylbenzene (DVB) and with trivinylbenzene (TVB) were pyrolyzed in a vacuum in the temperature range of 346 to 450 °C. The volatile products were collected in two fractions: A heavy fraction volatile at the temperature of pyrolysis and a light f…

First and Second Order Transitions in Neoprene

R. M. Murray、J. D. Detenber1961-05-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract Neoprene vulcanizates crystallize most rapidly at —12° C. The temperature at which a vulcanizate is crystallized determines the minimum temperature at which it will thaw, the thaw point being approximately 15° C higher than the crystallization temperature over the range studied. Brittleness temperature is not…

Solution properties of water-soluble polymers. I. Control of aggregation of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) by choice of solvent and/or electrolyte

Peter Francis1961-05-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Previous investigations on the solution properties of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) have led to the conclusion that crystalline cellulose regions, remaining after processing act as binding or crosslinking sites for the establishment of a fraction comprised of swollen gels or aggregates in solution. The present p…
