Nuclear reactor high-level waste: Origin and safe disposal

Christopher Chua、Kosta Tsipis1991-01-01Contemporary Physics

High-level waste (HL W) is a natural component of the nuclear fuel cycle. Because of its radioactivity, HL W needs to be handled with great care. Different alternatives for permanently storing HL W are evaluated. Studies have shown that the disposal of HL W is safest when the waste is first vitrified before storage. S…

Luminescence properties of A2ReCl6 crystals

Marco Bettinelli、Colin Flint、Gianluigi Ingletto1991-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

At temperatures below 60 K A2ReCl6(A = K, Rb, Cs) crystals emit intense, well resolved luminescence in the 13 900–12 800 cm–1 region under blue–green excitation. The emission is strongly temperature dependent and also depends somewhat on the excitation wavelength and crystal quality. It is here assigned as the vibroni…

Formation and Solid Lubricating Property of DLC(Diamond-Like Carbon).

Tatsumi Hioki、Shoji Noda、A. Isogai1991-01-01Hyomen Kagaku

Effect of Grain Boundary Sliding on the Creep Micro-Deformation of Copper

R.A. Carolan、Mitsuru Egashira、S Kishimoto 等 4 位作者1991-01-01Materials Transactions JIM

Grain boundary deformation measured using the electron lithographic microgrid technique has been found to give rise to regions of compressive longitudinal strain as well as strain concentrations in a uniaxial tensile creep test. The complexity of the experimental strain distribution is better explained by the use of a…

Oxidation of cobalt(II) tetrapyrroles in the presence of an electron acceptor

Damodar Reddy、N. Subba Reddy、Tavarekere K. Chandrashekar 等 4 位作者1991-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The interaction of cobalt(II) porphyrins and chlorin with 4,6-dinitrobenzofurazan 1-oxide (dnbfo) has been studied by spectroscopic methods. Initially all the cobalt(II) porphyrins form molecular complexes with the electron acceptor dnbfo, but with time a complete electron transfer is observed. This results in the for…

Dispersion of silicon carbide whiskers and powders in aqueous and non-aqueous media

Timothy P. O’Sullivan、Spencer E. Taylor1991-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

The dispersion behaviour of two commercial SiC whisker samples and one SiC powder has been investigated in aqueous and non-aqueous media using equilibrium sediment density measurements. In water, the pH range 9–11.0 was identified as being optimum for the dispersion of the SiC materials. The colloidal stability of aqu…

A technique for measuring contact angles at particles

Ulrich Bröckel、Friedrich Löffler1991-01-01Particle & Particle Systems Characterization

Abstract The behavior of particles at the phase transition between a gas or liquid and another liquid phase may be characterized by the so‐called wetting (or contact) angle. In contrast to plane surfaces, which allow such measurements to be conducted relatively easily, the determination of the wetting angle between a…
