Effect of space charge on micro-macro domain transition of PLZT

Z.‐Y. Cheng、Liangying Zhang、Xi Yao1992-01-01IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation

Space charge distributions of PLZT 8/65/35 were measured by the laser intensity modulation method. The effect of space charge on the micro-macro domain transition is shown. Large differences in the depolarization temperature T/sub d/ measured on heating and cooling are due mainly to the effect of space charge.>

Growth of the pearl oyster Plena sterna under different thermic and feeding conditions

MA del Rio-Portilla、AD Re-Araujo、Doménico Voltolina1992-01-01Marine Ecology Progress Series

The combined influence of temperature and food concentration on Pteria sterna growth was determined, using 3 temperatures and 3 food concentrations. During 15 wk, the shell was measured weekly along the axis of maximum growth. The 2 higher growth rates (4.8 and 4.2 mm mo-') were obtained with the highest ration, at 30…

Solid state polyamidation processes

C. D. Papaspyrides1992-01-01Polymer International

Abstract Low reaction rates and distinct transition phenomena from the solid to the melt state restrain solid state polymerisation (SSP) reactions of nylon salts for industrial application. To alleviate these problems, catalysts containing nylon salts are employed. In this study, hexamethylenediammonium adipate (HMA)…

Effect of Slag Composition on the Kinetics of the Reduction of Iron Oxide in Molten Slag by Graphite.

M. Sh. Bafghi、Yoshiki Ito、Shinji Yamada 等 4 位作者1992-01-01ISIJ International

A kinetic study has been made on the reduction of iron oxide in molten slag with graphite. The composition of the primary slag was changed so that SiO2 concentration varied between 0.33 and 0.50 mole fraction, and slag basicity between 1 and 2. The experimental temperature was 1300°C. The reaction rate is significantl…

Catalytic control of air pollution

John E. Sawyer、J.C. Summers1992-01-01OSTI OAI (U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information)

Improving the quality of our environment has become a growing concern in this country and around the globe. Research efforts in this field have recently been accelerated by the passage of the 1990 Clean Air Act. This book reports on a symposium that is part of a continuing series on the surface science of catalysis. I…

Effects of frequency on the electric strength of polymers

J.H. Mason1992-01-01IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation

The electric strength of air, in millimeter gaps, decreases at frequencies exceeding 100 kHz, but the effect on the discharge inception voltage V/sub i/ in solid insulation is too small to explain the reduction in the short-time breakdown voltage V/sub st/ of solids at radio frequencies. When breakdown is caused by in…

Escape depth of secondary electrons from electron-irradiated polymers

Roberto Hessel、B. Groß1992-01-01IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation

Measurements on polymers (Teflon, FEP and Mylar) have shown that the secondary electron emission from uncharged surfaces exceeds that from surfaces containing a positive surface charge. The reduced emission of charged surfaces is due to recombination between electrons undergoing emission and trapped holes within the c…

The effects of cold deformation on the morphology of α precipitates were examined for three β titanium alloys which were each mainly deformed by slip, twinning, and stress-induced martensitic transformation.Although α precipitated preferentially at β grain boundaries in the undeformed specimens, slight deformation (5%…

Polyethylene-Ultra High Modulus Polyethylene Short Fibers Composites

Abdellah Ajji、A. Aı̈t-Kadi、Annie Rochette1992-01-01Journal of Composite Materials

Composites based on chopped ultra high modulus polyethylene fibers (UHMPE) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) were prepared in the melt state. It is shown that the UHMPE fibers do not melt during the preparation operations, and an im portant enhancement of the mechanical properties is obtained as a function of fiber…

In vitro contraction rate of collagen in sponge-shape matrices

Marie‐France Côté、É. Sirois、Charles J. Doillon1992-01-01Journal of Biomaterials Science Polymer Edition

Connective tissue substitute can be made of collagen sponge-shaped matrice which is reconstituted by freeze-drying a collagen dispersion. This procedure is then followed by a crosslinking treatment to decrease the in vivo biodegradation rate. In the present study, collagen dispersions made of collagen fibrils with a D…

Molecular theory of elastic constants of liquid crystals: Application to uniaxial phases

Yashwant Singh、Shri Singh、Kumar Rajesh1992-01-01Physical Review A

We use density-functional theory to derive an expression for the distortion free energy of molecular ordered phases and expand it in terms of the order parameters characterizing the structure of the phase and the molecular correlation function of an effective isotropic liquid. We derive expressions for the elastic con…
