Polarization Waves in Solids

Tatsumi Kurosawa1961-07-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

A general theory of the polarization waves in crystals is developed in connection with the optical and the dielectric properties of the crystals. The result includes, in more general form, the relations by Szigeti and Fröhlich about the lattice vibrations in ionic crystals and the theory by Heller and Marcus for the e…

Spin-Lattice Relaxation in Imperfect Cubic Crystals and in Non-cubic Crystals

E.R. Andrew、D P Tunstall1961-07-01Proceedings of the Physical Society

An examination is made of the spin-lattice relaxation in the solid state of nuclei whose energy level spacings in a magnetic field are rendered unequal by quadrupole interactions with the crystalline electric field. Attention is directed to two special cases: (1) when the main magnetic field is suddenly increased from…

Crystallization of bulk polymers with chain folding: theory of growth of lamellar spherulites

John Hoffman、John I. Lauritzen1961-07-01OpenAlex

A systematic study of the problem of spherulitic growth in linear polymers in bulk has been carried out. A calculation of the radial growth of polymer spherulites is given for four models. These concern growth where the surface nuclei that control the rate are (1) bundlelike and coherent, (2) chain folded and coherent…

ESR Studies on the Bonding in Copper Complexes

Daniel Kivelson、Robert Neiman1961-07-01OpenAlex

ESR spectra of copper complexes have been interpreted by means of molecular orbital theory, and the ``covalent'' character of both σ and π bonds have been discussed for a variety of compounds. Overlap integrals have been considered in a consistent manner in treating σ bonds. Particular attention has been given to Cu p…

Electron-Electron Scattering and Transport Phenomena in Nonpolar Semiconductors

Joachim Appel1961-06-15Physical Review

The effect of electron-electron scattering processes due to Coulomb forces on the transport phenomena in nonpolar isotropic solids is treated in the framework of Kohler's variation principle. By considering the conduction electrons as a Fermi-Dirac gas of noninteracting free quasi-particles, each with charge $\ensurem…

Weak Ferromagnetism in β-NaFeO2

Hiroshi Watanabe、Masahiro Fukase1961-06-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The high temperature modification of sodium ferrite, β-NaFeO 2 , has weak ferromagnetism, whose Curie temperature is about 450°C. The magnetic property resembles that of LaFeO 3 . The origin of weak ferromagnetism of β-NaFeO 2 can be attributed to the presence of the Dzyalo-shinsky type interaction in this compound.
