The loss of moisture and the initiation of dry-band formation on wet contaminated insulation has been studied by measuring the insulation resistance of the contaminated specimen as a function of the degree of contamination, relative humidity, applied voltage and time. Drying of the wet contamination consistently occur…

Abstract On the basis of an isoviscosity criterion for the glass transition (η g ⋍ 10 13 poise) in liquids of low molecular weight, theoretical T g values were calculated for the n ‐alkane series by the equation log η = log A + B /( T − T 0 ), with the use of values reported by Lewis for the parameters. The T g / T 0…

Abstract An experimental study was made of the short range order (SRO) and temperature dependence of the stacking fault energy (SFE) for a Cu‐15 at% Al alloy using (110) single crystal foils. The SFE was determined using measurements form threefold nodes, intrinsicextrinsic fault pairs, and Frank triangles. Good quant…

Abstract The dielectric constant ε of triglycine sulfate has been measured along the ferroelectric axis in the vicinity of the transition temperature T c . The thickness dependence of the maximum ε‐values can be explained by assuming two different surface layers. The outermost layer is formed during the preparation of…

Owing to the fact that sulfur can exist in different oxidation states and that in each oxidation state it can form different functions, there exist many different sulfur-containing chemical functions with a widespread array of chemical and physical properties. Consequently, sulfur-containing polymers vary from highly…

The reaction of the hydrido-complex [RhH(CN4)(H2O)]2– with molecular oxygen has been investigated. The product we have obtained appears to be the hydroperoxo-complex, [Rh(O2H)(CN)4(H2O)]2– rather than the binuclear µ-peroxo-complex [(CN)4(H2O)Rh·O2·Rh(H2O)(CN)4]4– as has previously been reported. Acid hydrolysis yield…

The nuclide generator is a radioactive element of long half life which is used to produce a short-lived daughter, or decay product, useful in medical diagnosis. This paper discusses the inventory problem for such exponentially decaying substances. Methods are proposed for finding the optimizing replenishment size when…

The paramagnetic resonance spectrum of divalent manganese ion in single crystals of potassium sulfate is described in detail over a large temperature range. Mn2± is found to substitute for K± and becomes associated with first-, second-, and third-neighbor potassium ion vacancies. The different spectra obtained at room…

The oxidation properties of niobium were studied in the temperature range 450°–720°C at oxygen pressures 1–760 Torr. Particular emphasis was placed on correlating the morphology of the reaction products with the oxidation kinetics. During the initial, approximately parabolic oxidation period the scale appears compact,…
