Röntgenuntersuchung der System CaOAl2O3 und SrOAl2O3

Karin Lagerqvist、Signe Wallmark、A.

Microbiology of Textile Fibres VI. Relative Humidity over Certain Aqueous Solutions of Glycerol at 25° C

Bryce Prindle1937-09-01Textile Research Journal

A dew point apparatus was devised for measuring the humidity over aqueous solutions of non-volatile substances. Preliminary experiments proved that results obtained with the instrument were reproducible and that it could be used to make dependable measurements of the relative humidity over such solutions in the range…

The effect of pressure and temperature on the occlusion of hydrogen by palladium

E. A. Owen、John Idwal Jones1937-09-01Proceedings of the Physical Society

The X-ray method has been employed to investigate the occlusion of hydrogen by palladium when the pressure of the hydrogen surrounding the palladium and the temperature of the palladium are varied. Measurements were made of the parameter of palladium at temperatures of 80, 100, 120, 140 and 160° C. when the palladium…

Hydration of magnesia in dolomitic hydrated limes and putties

L.S. Wells、Kenneth Taylor1937-08-01Journal of research of the National Bureau of Standards

Heat-Qf-solution and ignition-loss methods have been developed for determining the degree of hydration of magnesia in hydrated dolomitic limes and in hydrated dolomitic lime putties. The rate of hydratiQn Qf magnesia in such limes has been studied when the limes were aged as putties at different temperatures, when sub…

The Molecular Structure of P4O6, P4O8, P4O10 and As4O6 by Electron Diffraction

L. R. Maxwell、S. B. Hendricks、Lola S. Deming1937-08-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

Molecular structures of P4O6 and As4O6 were determined from electron diffraction data. P4O6 was found to have the symmetry of the point group Td with an angle P–O–P of 128.5±1.5°, and a P–O distance of 1.67±0.03A. In this structure the phosphorus oxygen distances and the phosphorus valence angles were preserved with r…

Theoretical Limitations of Cathode-Ray Tubes

David B. Langmuir1937-08-01Proceedings of the IRE

The current density in a focused beam of cathode rays is shown to have an upper limit defined by I = I0(Ee/kT+1) sin2φ, where I is the maximum current density obtainable in the focused spot, I0is the current density at the cathode, E is the voltage at the focus relative to the cathode, T is the absolute temperature of…

The Bonding Force of Cellulosic Materials for Water (from Specific Volume and Thermal Data)

Alfred J. Stamm、Leonard Hansen1937-07-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry

An attempt was made in a previously reported research (14) to determine the volumetric contraction occurring in the water adsorbed by cellulosic materials. Apparent density measurements of wood and cellulose containing various amounts of adsorbed water were made in benzene. Benzene causes no swelling of cellulosic mat…

On the Role of Dipole-Dipole Coupling in Dielectric Media

J. H. Van Vleck1937-07-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The mathematical treatment of dipole-dipole coupling in my previous article on magnetism applies with but little modification to the electric case. Because of fluctuation effects, the use of the usual Lorentz local field E+4πP/3 and of the Clausius-Mossotti formula cannot be justified except as a first approximation v…
