Climb kinetics of dislocation loops in aluminium

P. S. Dobson、P.J. Goodhew、R.E. Smallman1967-07-01Philosophical magazine

The climb kinetics of dislocation loops in thin foils in terms of either the emission of vacancies from the loop or the diffusion of vacancies to the surface has been critically examined. Although both mechanisms give similar rate equations, predictions can be made which allow the rate controlling process to be determ…

Simple Theory of Stress Strain Properties of Filled Polymers

Lawrence E. Nielsen1967-07-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract By the use of simple models of filled plastics, approximate equations are derived for elongation to break in the case of perfect adhesion between the phases and for the tensile strength in the case of no adhesion between the polymer and filler phases. By combining these equations with equations for the modulu…

Hygroscopic Effects on Weight Determinations of Particulates Collected on Glass-Fiber Filters

Gregory P. Tierney、William D. Conner1967-07-01American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal

The effect of relative humidity on the tare weight of glass-fiber filters was insignificant, but the effect on collected particulates was significant when the humidity exceeded 55%. When particulate samples were weighed at relative humidities below 55%, weight variations did not exceed 1%.

Aminobutadienes. IV. Addition Reactions to 1-Phthalimido- and 2-Phthalimido-1,3-butadienes

Akira Terada、Kenichi Murata1967-07-01Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan

Abstract 1-Phthalimido-1,3-butadiene (I) and 2-phthalimido-1,3-butadiene (II) were chosen for study as typical imidobutadienes in order to clarify the role of such imido groups in determining the orientation of the addition reactions, and also the addition modes in their own polymerizations. The addition reactions of…

Disproportionation and Vaporization of Solid Silicon Monoxide

W. Hertl、W. W. Pultz1967-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The vaporization rate of solid SiO was studied in the temperature range 1005° to 1475°C. It was concluded that ( a ) in an argon atmosphere the vaporization rate is external gas diffusion controlled; ( b ) only the upper layers of the charge contribute to the vaporization, so that a zero‐order process is observed; ( c…

Carbonatation of ca(oh)2investigated by thermal andx‐ray diffraction methods of analysis

J. E. Gillott1967-07-01Journal of Applied Chemistry

Abstract The carbonatation of calcium hydroxide has been re‐investigated using thermal and X ‐ray diffraction methods of analysis. The crystal size and morphology of Ca(OH) 2 vary with the method of preparation, which also affects the rate and mechanism of the carbonatation reaction. This is also dependent upon the re…

Adhesion of high polymers. I. Influence of diffusion, adsorption, and physical state on polymer adhesion

Lieng‐Huang Lee1967-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract It is possible to identify three distinct types of polymer adhesion on the basis of the physical state of adhesive and adherend: ( 1 ) rubbery polymer–rubbery polymer (R–R adhesion); ( 2 ) rubbery polymer–glassy polymer (R–G adhesion); ( 3 ) rubbery polymer–nonpolymer (R–S adhesion). Limitations of the diffus…

Thermal Diffusivity of Platinum from 300° to 1200°K

J. J. Martin、P. H. Sidles、G. C. Danielson1967-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

The thermal diffusivity of five platinum samples with resistivity ratios of 12, 34, 100, 900, and 5000 has been measured from 300° to 1200°K. Only the sample with the resistivity ratio of 12 showed deviations of more than 3% from the average thermal diffusivity of the two purest samples. Thermal conductivity values ha…

F. R. Dammont、T. K. Kwei1967-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract The α, β, and γ transitions at temperatures between −200 and +100°C. of crosslinked aromatic and aliphatic epoxy polymers were determined from damping and shear modulus data, and compared with their fluorine containing analogs. Loci of segmental relaxation are suggested at various temperatures, and similariti…

A study of hydroxyl groups in kaolin minerals utilizing selective deuteration and infrared spectroscopy

Kōji Wada1967-07-01Clay Minerals

Abstract The OH-OD exchange of kaolin minerals through contact with D 2 O introduced into interlayer space via intersalation resulted in a partial shift of the OH absorption bands. The total decrease in OH absorbance upon deuteralion was 52, 56, and 47% for the kaolinite, dickite-nacrite, and halloysite respectively,…

``Excimer'' and ``Defect'' Structure for Anthracene and Some Derivatives in Crystals, Thin Films, and Other Rigid Matrices

P. E. Fielding、R. C. Jarnagin1967-07-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

The emission lifetimes of matrix-stabilized dimers of anthracene and its derivatives were observed. The two principal conformations considered were the sandwich excimers and the 55° dimers. The excimer lifetimes may be of use in establishing wavefunctions for these transient states. A comparison of the lifetimes and e…
