Analysis of Overvoltages Caused by Transformer Magnetizing Inrush Current

D. Povh、W. Schultz1978-07-01IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems

In systems with pronounced resonance conditions and a low degree of damping, temporary overvoltages may develop when transformers are switched in or at fault clearing. Overvoltages can occur e.g. in generator networks feeding HVDC stations and in high voltage cable systems.

Thermodynamics of Potassium‐Calcium and Magnesium‐Calcium Exchange Reactions on a Kaolinitic Soil Clay

E. J. Udo1978-07-01Soil Science Society of America Journal

Abstract Thermodynamic parameters derived from experimental results were determined for the potassium‐calcium and magnesium‐calcium exchange reactions on a kaolinitic soil clay separated from the B horizon of a strongly weathered soil profile. The clay samples were equilibrated at 10° and 30°C with a mixed solution of…

Relationship between total losses under tensile stress in 3 percent Si-Fe single crystals and their orientations near

Takashi Nozawa、Takumi Yamamoto、Y. Matsuo 等 4 位作者1978-07-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

The relationship between the total loss under tensile stress and the tilt angle of the [001] out of crystal surface β was studied in 3 percent Si-Fe single crystals. The total loss largely depends upon β. When β is about 2°, the total loss under tensile stress is the smallest, and the decrease of the total loss due to…

Impurity‐Induced Exaggerated Grain Growth in Mn‐Zn Ferrites

M. F. Yan、David W. Johnson1978-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The effects of 20 oxide dopants on the microstructure development of Mn‐Zn ferrite during sintering were investigated by diffusion‐couple‐like experiments. Nine oxides enhanced grain growth in ferrite; the effects of TiO 2 dopant were studied in detail. The TiO 2 ‐induced exaggerated grain growth shows a parabolic tim…

Specific volume of polysulfone as a function of temperature and pressure

P. Zoller1978-07-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The pressure–volume–temperature (PVT) properties of a commercial polysulfone derived from bisphenol A and 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenylsulfone are studied experimentally and theoretically in the temperature range 30–370°C and for pressures to 2000 kg/cm 2 . PVT surfaces are determined for an annealed glass, formed un…

Anisotropic irradiation creep of zircaloy-2

J. E. Habbottle1978-07-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

The inherent texture and unique Burgers vector in h.e.p. zircaloy tubing should confer anisotropic creep properties on the material. The results of an experiment designed to measure the anisotropy of irradiation creep using pressurized tubes are analysed in terms of a texture-dependent model based on glide. The predom…

ZnCl2 glass: A potential ultralow-loss optical fiber material

L. G. Van Uitert、S. H. Wemple1978-07-01Applied Physics Letters

Zinc chloride glass is a potentially useful medium for ultralow-loss (∼1 dB/103 km) optical fibers for wavelengths in the 3.5–4-μm region. In this region, intrinsic absorption, scatter, and material dispersion are all expected to be small, and the common fully oxidized transition metal impurities and H2O should exhibi…

Graphite intercalation compounds

J. E. Fischer、T. E. Thompson1978-07-01Physics Today

Solid-state physicists are turning more and more to complex synthetic materials in their search for novel phenomena and potentially useful properties. Many of these materials are highly anisotropic, so that interatomic interactions can for all practical purposes be neglected along one or two crystal axes. One of the o…

"Weak Lifshitz condition" and the allowed types of ordering in second-order phase transitions

A. A. Michelson1978-07-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

It is known that the Lifshitz condition is not a necessary condition for second-order phase transitions in crystals. We show, however, that a certain necessary condition (which we have termed "the weak Lifshitz condition") does exist, though much weaker than the original Lifshitz condition. This necessary condition im…

Electropolishing of Titanium in Perchloric Acid‐Acetic Acid Solution: I . Auger Electron Spectroscopy Study of Anodic Films

Jörg Mathieu、H. J. Mathieu、D. Landolt1978-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Anodic films on titanium formed in a perchloric acid‐acetic acid electropolishing electrolyte were investigated by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) depth profile analysis. Films formed in at different potentials were used as standards for determining sputter rate and stoichiometry. Obtained results show linear film g…

Microelectrode Studies of Electrochemically Coprecipitated Cobalt Hydroxide in Nickel Hydroxide Electrodes

David F. Pickett、J. T. Maloy1978-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

The role of electrochemically coprecipitated cobalt hydroxide and nickel hydroxide has been investigated at a nickel microelectrode for purposes of elucidating the effect of cobalt hydroxide on the electrode reactions of battery active nickel hydroxide. Hydroxide films were deposited onto the electrode surface from bo…

Perturbation of Parabolic Kinetics Resulting from the Accumulation of Stress in Protective Oxide Layers

H.E. Evans、Donald Norfolk、T. Swan1978-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

A frequent observation in metal oxidation is the development of subparabolic kinetics, variously described as cubic or quartic. Although a number of detailed mechanisms have been proposed to account for this effect, none seem generally applicable. This paper presents a model of the oxidation process which is divorced…

Further Developments in Anisotropic Plasticity

C.F. Shih、D. Lee1978-07-01Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology

A simple extension of Hill’s formulation for anisotropic plasticity which accounts for the distortion of the yield surface, Mij, the strength differential between tension and compression, αi and the effective size of the loading surface, k, has been proposed. These material parameters, Mij, αi, and k, define the initi…

Impact Behavior of Low Strength Projectiles

James S. Wilbeck1978-07-01Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC)

An unsteady, hydrodynamic model of the impact of a low strength projectile on a rigid or semi-rigid target has been developed. Impact tests of various materials including birds, gelatin, and RTV rubber have been conducted to validate this theory. At velocities above 100 m/s, these materials were seen to flow as a flui…

Heavy-ion irradiation of α-iron

M. L. Jenkins、C.A. English、B.L. Eyre1978-07-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

In this paper we report the results from a transmission electron microscope study of α-iron after irradiation with heavy ions. No visible damage was observed following a low dose of self-ions in the energy range 40–240 keV. This is in contrast to the results from other pure metals where visible damage is produced afte…
