Discharge current induced by the motion of charged particles

Noriyosi Sato1980-01-14Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

A formula for discharge current flowing in a space charge filled gap is derived for a general geometry of electrodes from the energy balance equation in which the displacement current caused by the motion of the charged particles in the gap is taken into account. It is found that in the formula obtained the influence…

The contribution made by eddy currents to the effective mass of a magnetic domain wall

J.E.L. Bishop1980-01-14Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

The eddy current drag on a moving domain wall is proportional, not to the instantaneous wall velocity, but to a moving average of its recent velocities. Thus an oscillating domain wall experiences an eddy force component in quadrature with its velocity that may formally be attributed to a negative effective 'eddy mass…

Bonding and phase transitions in transition metal dichalcogenide layer compounds

J E Inglesfield1980-01-10Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

The electronic structure of the transition metal dichalcogenide layer compounds is studied using hybridised orbitals appropriate to the transition metal atom coordination. Non-bonding orbitals on the transition metal atoms give the conduction electron bands which are responsible for the charge-density-wave phase trans…

L-Shell Contributions to Multiple Ionization ofAri+Ions (i=1, 2, 3) by Electron Impact

A. Müller、R Frodl1980-01-07Physical Review Letters

With the use of crossed beams of electrons and multiply charged argons ions, dominant contributions (above 90%) of $L$-shell ionization to multiple ionization of ${\mathrm{Ar}}^{i+}$ ions ($i=1, 2, 3$) at electron energies below 800 eV are identified. The observed contributions are explained in terms of the electron r…

MECHANISM OF BEER FOAM STABILIZATION BY PROPYLENE GLYCOL ALGINATE

Glen P. Jackson、R. T. Roberts、Thomas C. Wainwright1980-01-02Journal of the Institute of Brewing

Propylene glycol alginates give greater increases in foam stability than are given by equal amounts of neutral polysaccharides. This is due to electrostatic interaction between carboxyl groups on the glycol alginate molecules and amino groups on the peptides in the bubble wall. This interaction within the bubble wall…

ON THE FACETS AND TWIN FORMATION IN THE GROWTH OF InSb SINGLE CRYSTALS

YU ZHEN-ZHONG、JIN GANG、Xinqiang Chen 等 4 位作者1980-01-01Acta Physica Sinica

The observations of solid-liquid interface morphology of InSb single crystals pulled by using various oriented seeds is described. Experimental results indicate that the external forms of crystals as well as the formation of growth twin are closely related to the development and properties of {111} facets on the solid…

Surface Modification of Silicagels. Evaluation of Thermally - Treated Commercial Silicagels

Ziad El Rassi、C. Gonnet1980-01-01Journal of Liquid Chromatography

The chromatographic properties and the structure and texture of thermally treated silicagels have been studied. Commercial silicagels (Partisil and Lichrosorb) were thermally modified at 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900°C. The evolution of specific surface, pore volume and distribution of mean pore diameter as a f…

Domain structure realignment and Barkhausen effect in NaH3(SeO3)2single crystals

V. M. Rudyak、Т.И. Иванова1980-01-01Ferroelectrics

This paper reports on simultaneous domain structure observations and Barkhausen effect measurements in ferroelectric and ferroelastic NaH3(SeO3)2. It is found that two different types of Barkhausen jumps are discernable originating from realignments in ferroelectric and ferroelastic domain structures respectively. Wit…

Errors in the determination of void volumes by transmission electron microscopy

HS von Harrach、A.J.E. Foreman1980-01-01Radiation Effects

The determination of void volumes from transmission electron micrographs is an essential part of evaluating the void swelling in irradiated materials. Three commonly-used methods of determining the void volume are investigated. The apparent change in the volume of octahedral voids in f.c.c. metals with orientation and…

Abstract Parts of a stainless steel limiter used in the T‐10 tokamak for about 1000 discharges have been analyzed by several standard analysis techniques as SEM, EDS, SAM, AES, RBS and SIMS with respect to modifications of surface structure and chemical composition. Erosion phenomena due to melting and evaporation, ar…

Crystal-Liquid Instability and Pressure-Induced Glass Transition

R. M. J. Cotterill、J. U. Madsen1980-01-01Physica Scripta

The equation of state for Lennard-Jones matter has been investigated by molecular dynamics. A crystal-liquid instability is encountered, on expansion, at a density which increases slightly with temperature. No similar liquid instability is found on compression, which instead ultimately leads to a glass transition.

Thick film conductors based on Al, Cu and Ni have been studied. Because of its high depth of field, a SEM was used to study the microstructures of the fired conductors. Because of the very small size of the particles in commercial Cu pastes the neck growth forms part of the grain growth mechanism. The bonding between…
