René Hermann、J. B. Pawley、Takashi Nagatani 等 4 位作者1988-01-01Digital Commons - USU (Utah State University)

Thin continuous metal coatings and a scanning electron microscope-generated spot size in the range of the visualized particles, are necessary prerequisites if one hopes to extract high-resolution topographic information in the scanning electron microscope. Chemical fixation and dehydration in organic solvents at room…

Galvanic Corrosion Caused by Corrosion Products

S. Mark Wilhelm1988-01-01OpenAlex

Experiments were conducted to quantify the magnitude of galvanic currents and potentials that exist between metals (iron, copper, titanium, aluminum, chromium, and nickel) and their corrosion products in oxygen-containing environments. Current measurements using a zero resistance ammeter and potential measurements of…

Increase of aqueous humor proteins with aging.

K Inada、Tomonori Murata、Baba H 等 5 位作者1988-01-01PubMed

Quantitative analyses by crossed immunoelectrophoresis were carried out on 31 eyes of 26 cataract patients, age 4-80 years, to detect age changes in the human aqueous humor especially in the following aqueous humor proteins: prealbumin, albumin, alpha 1-acid glycoprotein and transferrin. There was a significant correl…

A study of the mechanical anisotropy of high‐draw, low‐draw, and voided PVDF

Jennifer Humphreys、E. L. V. Lewis、I. M. Ward 等 5 位作者1988-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract The mechanical anisotropy of oriented PVDF sheet is examined using a variety of experimental techniques. The mechanical behavior is similar to that observed previously for low‐density polyethylene and nylon and consistent with a parallel lamellar crystalline structure. The s 31 compliance is reduced in magnit…

Tautomerism in free base porphyrins: the porphyrin potential energy surface

Kenneth M. Merz、Charles H. Reynolds1988-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

AM1 calculations are reported which demonstrate that the classical hydrogen migration in porphyrin occurs via a two-step mechanism, not a synchronous-concerted mechanism as has been previously supposed; the implications of this mechanism on tautomerization dynamics are discussed.

Phase Transformation and Microstructure of Partially-Stabilized Zirconia

T. Sakuma1988-01-01Transactions of the Japan Institute of Metals

Phase transformations and the resultant microstructures of partially-stabilized zirconia (PSZ) are briefly reviewed with a special interest in the nature of phase transformations. The martensitic tetragonal-to-monoclinic transformation, which plays a principal role in toughening of PSZ, accompanies lattice defects suc…

Dislocation mobility and crack tip plasticity at the ductile-brittle transition

P. B. Hirsch、Steve Roberts、Jonathan Samuels1988-01-01Revue de Physique Appliquée

Recent ideas on the mechanisms controlling the initial stages of plastic flow at cracks in intrinsically brittle materials, at the ductile-brittle transition, are reviewed. New experiments on precracked specimens of Si are reported, which confirm earlier work that the ductile-brittle transition is controlled by disloc…

Development of a shape memory alloy actuator. Improvement of output performance by the introduction of a σ-mechanism

Shigeo Hirose、Koji Ikuta、Koichi Sato1988-01-01Advanced Robotics

The driving-force-generating principle of an actuator made of shape memory alloy (SMA) is based on the thermal elastic martensitic transformation, a kind of elastic phenomenon. As a result, conventional SMA actuators which use a circular pulley have tended to exhibit undesirable characteristics such as the maximum gen…

DMTA studies of polymer blends and compatibility

R.E. Wetton、Patrick J. Corish1988-01-01Polymer Testing

Some aspects of the testing of polymer blends by Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analysis (DMTA) are reported. Compatibility of the blend components, which has a major influence on physical properties, can be well characterised. Data are presented for various types of blends, both compatible and incompatible. The Validity of a “Linearizing Method” for Predicting the Biaxial-extension Properties of Fabrics

Mari Kageyama、Sueo Kawabata、Masaka Niwa1988-01-01Journal of the Textile Institute

The “linearizing method” is a method used to predict the stress/strain relation of fabrics under biaxial extension in the warp and weft directions. The stress/strain relation is firstly linearized by using a transformed strain such as ei = ∊i n where ei is the transformed strain (i =1, 2), ∊i the strain, and n a const…

Gas-phase hydrogenolysis of chloroethene: rates, products, and computer modelling

Jeffrey A. Manion、Robert Louw1988-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Perkin Transactions 2

Hydrogenolysis of chloroethene (vinyl chloride, VC) has been investigated in a tubular-flow reactor at atmospheric pressure between 872–1085 K. Ethene, ethyne, and HCl are major initial products of reaction. Hydrogen-atom addition to the substituted end of VC yields C2H4 after loss of a chlorine atom from the radical…
