Uronema trentonense sp. nov. (Chlorophycophyta, Ulotrichales): a new edaphic alga from New Jersey

Kwok W. Lee1978-06-01Phycologia

A new species of Uronema isolated from New Jersey soils is described. The apical cell of the unbranched filament of U. trentonense is consistently pointed and a holdfast is invariably formed at the basal cell. The apical cell shows varying degrees of acumination and the holdfast exhibits several morphological forms.

Accurate determination of 77K hole concentration in Pb0.8Sn0.2Te from near-room-temperature thermoelectric measurements

M. L. Young1978-06-01Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

It is shown that thermoelectric voltage measurements in the mixed-conduction region can be used to determine accurately the extrinsic hole concentration p 77K in Pb 0.8 Sn 0.2 Te. For the p 77K range, 10 16 -10 18 cm -3 , this can be achieved by a thermoelectric voltage measurement over the temperature range 295-395K.…

The Characterization of Internal Power Losses in Pacemaker Batteries by Calorimetry

Lee D. Hansen、R. M. Hart1978-06-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

A calorimeter for measuring heat output from batteries is described. The calorimeter has a peak‐to‐peak noise level of 0.3 μW. A thermodynamic analysis of battery processes is given and a method of using the calorimetric data to study and define parasitic processes is illustrated with data on several batteries.

James C. W. Chien、Joseph K. Y. Kiang1978-06-01Advances in chemistry series

Amorphous and semi-crystalline polypropylene samples were pyrolyzed in He from 388°-438°C and in air from 240°-289°C. A novel interfaced pyrolysis gas chromatographic peak identification system was used to analyze the products on-the-fly; the chemical structures of the products were determined also by mass spectrometr…

The Effects of Some Structural Variations on the Biodegradability of Step-Growth Polymers

Samuel J. Huang、MICHEL M. BITRITTO、Kam W. Leong 等 6 位作者1978-06-01Advances in chemistry series

Many new step-growth polymers containing one or more types of linkages such as amide, ester, urea, and methanes were biodegradable by fungi and enzymes. Suitable substituents, combinations of hydrophilic and hydrophobic segments and long repeating units, contribute to the increase of biodegradability of the polymers.…

Electrical resistivity of electron-irradiated concentrated Fe-Cr-Ni alloys during isochronal annealing

Bhupendra Sharma、Karsten Sonnenberg、G. Antesberger 等 4 位作者1978-06-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

The resistivity of various Fe-Ni-Cr alloys, electron-irradiated at 4·2 K, has been investigated during annealing from 4·2 to 1300 K. The annealing behaviour for these alloys is completely different from that of pure metals, except in the temperature range below 100 K. A large resistivity increase and decrease was obse…

Edwin L. Thomas、Thomas M. Aune1978-06-01Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy

The mechanism of antimicrobial activity of the peroxidase-hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2))-iodide (I(-)) system was investigated. Inhibition of respiration and loss of viability of Escherichia coli were used as measures of antimicrobial activity. Because the bacteria destroyed H(2)O(2), peroxidase antimicrobial action dep…
