Teófilo Rojo、M.I. Arriortua、Javier Ruiz 等 6 位作者1987-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu2(terpy)2Cl2][PF6]2(terpy = 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridyl) has been determined from three-dimensional X-ray data. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/a with two dimeric formula units in a unit cell of dimensions a= 20.420(8), b= 13.383(1), c= 6.316 5(7)Å, and β=…

The ferroelectric and liquid-crystalline properties of some chiral alkyl 4-n-alkanoyloxybiphenyl-4′-carboxylates

John W. Goodby、Evelyn S. Chin、John M. Geary 等 5 位作者1987-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions 1 Physical Chemistry in Condensed Phases

A variety of chiral esters of a range 4-n-alkanoyloxybiphenyl-4′-carboxylic acids have been prepared in order to produce three closely related homologous series of liquid-crystalline materials. The majority of the materials synthesized were found to exhibit smectic liquid-crystalline phases close to room temperature.…

Description of overall anisotropy in diffraction from macromolecular crystals

S. Sheriff、Wayne A. Hendrickson1987-01-01Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography

Simple formulations are described for evaluating overall anisotropy of the kind sometimes found in diffraction from crystals of macromolecules. The models correspond to whole-body anisotropic vibration of unit cells or of asymmetric macromolecular units that internally also undergo local isotropic atomic motions. Thes…

Calculation of the Yield Locus of Textured Polycrystals Using the Taylor and the Relaxed Taylor Theory

P. Van Houtte1987-01-01Texture Stress and Microstructure

Several authors have proposed methods which use the Taylor–Bishop–Hill theory in order to calculate the yield surface of textured samples of which the O.D.F. is known. The purpose of this paper is to show how these methods can be generalized while keeping the computational effort within reasonable limits. It must be e…

Problems and Solutions in Quantitative Analysis of Complex Mixtures by X-Ray Powder Diffraction

D. L. Bish、S. J. Chipera1987-01-01Advances in X-ray Analysis

Abstract In spite of the wide availability of automated diffractometers and advanced data reduction software, numerous traditional problems still exist that make highly precise and accurate quantitative analyses of complex mixtures difficult. The problems include particle statistics, primary extinction, microabsorptio…

Transmission electron microscopy study of Al13Fe4tenfold twins in rapidly cooled Al–Fe alloys

K. K. Fung、Xiaodong Zou、Chunlei Yang1987-01-01Philosophical Magazine Letters

Al13 Fe4 tenfold twins, found in rapidly cooled Al–Fe alloys, have been studied by transmission electron microscopy. The development of the tenfold diffraction pattern from the twins is clearly shown, and compared to the tenfold pattern of the decagonal phase found in the same specimen. The coexistence of the tenfold…

Ultrastructural Organization of Skin: Classification on the Basis of Mechanical Role

A. S. Craig、Eric F. Eikenberry、David Parry1987-01-01Connective Tissue Research

In our previous developmental study on skin we reported that correlations existed between the collagen fibril diameter distribution, glycosaminoglycan content and composition, and mechanical role. In this work we present new but related electron microscope data on the ultrastructure of skins from flounder, marlin, cod…

Effect of plasma waves on the optical properties of metal-insulator superlattices

W. Luis Mochán、Marcelo del Castillo‐Mussot、Rubén G. Barrera 等 7 位作者1987-01-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We develop a simple transfer-matrix formalism in order to obtain the dispersion relation of the electromagnetic normal modes of an infinite insulator-metal (or highly doped semiconductor) superlattice, taking into account the presence of plasma waves, spatial dispersion, and retardation. We also calculate the p-polari…

Quantitative small‐angle light‐scattering studies of the melting and crystallization of LLDPE/LDPE blends

Moonhor Ree、Thein Kyu、Richard S. Stein1987-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract Small‐angle light‐scattering (SALS) patterns were obtained during melting and crystallization of blends of linear low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE) with conventional low‐density polyethylene (LDPE). State of Order in Liquid Crystalline Elastomers

Joachim Schätzle、Heino Finkelmann1987-01-01Molecular crystals and liquid crystals

The orientation behavior of crosslinked liquid crystal-line side chain polymers is determined by IR-dichroism measurements. In stretched samples the conformation of the polymer main chain and the chemical constitution of the rodlike side chain determine the position of the director in relation to the axis of stress. T…

On the percolative behavior of carbon black cross‐linked polyethylene systems

L. Benguigui、J. Yacubowicz、M. Narkis1987-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part B Polymer Physics

Abstract The dielectric properties of peroxide cross‐linked polyethylene–carbon black composite systems are described in the frequency range between 10 and 10 7 Hz as a function of frequency and carbon black loading. Very high values for the dielectric constant were obtained when measuring conductive samples. A percol…

Electric conductivity and phase diagram of a mixed-stack charge-transfer crystal: Tetrathiafulvalene-p-chloranil

T. Mitani、Y. Kaneko、Sei-ichi Tanuma 等 6 位作者1987-01-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

The electric conductivity has been measured on the mixed-stack charge-transfer crystal tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) -p-chloranil (CA) as a function of temperature (T>30 K) and pressure (P<11 kbar). On the basis of the experimental results, a P-T phase diagram is presented for the charge-transfer state in TTF-CA.

K. R. Welford、J. R. Sambles、Michael G. Clark1987-01-01Liquid Crystals

An aligned layer of nematic liquid crystal with suitable optical anisotropy and under the application of appropriate applied voltages, may support various guided modes of light. A real-space computer-based symmetry algebra

U. D. Altermatt、I. D. Brown1987-01-01Acta Crystallographica Section A Foundations of Crystallography

A computer-based symmetry algebra is described which permits the reconstruction of an infinite bond network from the asymmetric connectivity without an a priori knowledge of atomic coordinates. The algebra requires not only an algorithmic ordering of the Wyckoff groups but the designation of one site in each Wyckoff g…
