Röntgen‐Weitwinkeluntersuchungen zur übermolekularen Struktur beim Cellulose‐I‐II‐Phasenübergang

Hans‐Peter Fink、D. Fanter、B. Philipp1985-01-01Acta Polymerica

Tissue‐ and Stage‐Specific Expression of Sericin Genes in the Middle Silk Gland of Bombyx mori

Etsuko Ishikawa、Yoshiaki Suzuki1985-01-01Development Growth & Differentiation

Sericin gene expression in the middle silk glands during Bombyx mori larval development was analyzed using probes from a genomic DNA clone for 10.5 kb sericin mRNA. The 10.5 kb mRNA, the most abundant in the fifth instar, is not detected in the third feeding, fourth feeding and fourth moulting stages. It becomes detec…

Structure and Properties of an Integrated 3-D Fabric for Structural Composites

FK Ko、Christopher Pastore1985-01-01OpenAlex

Based on experimental observations, a theoretical framework has been established to quantify the geometry of a three-dimensional braided fabric. Predictions of the strength of the fabric and composite were made using a geometric model.

Influence of hydrostatic pressure on pitting of aluminium in sea water

A. M. Beccaria、G. Poggi1985-01-01British Corrosion Journal

The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the corrosion of aluminium in sea water oj pH 8·2 containing 7ppm dissolved oxygen has been investigated at 20°C. On increasing the pressure from 1 to 300 atm, the corrosion rate increased, an effect attributable to an increase in the rate of the anodic reaction while the cathodic…

The Cu2Sb and related structures

作者信息未提供1985-01-01Zeitschrift für Kristallographie - Crystalline Materials

Abstract It is observed that neither inspection of z values, consideration of near-neighbour coordination, nor chemical considerations show in all cases which atom occupies site 2 ( c I ) and which site 2 ( c II ) of the Cu 2 Sb tP 6 structure. Calculation of the Wirkungsbereiche by the Dirichlet construction shows in…

Development of Nonionic Contrast Media

Torsten Almèn1985-01-01Investigative Radiology

In this brief history, the author reviews the observations that led to his developing a nonionic contrast medium. Current knowledge suggested that if a water-soluble medium could be made isotonic to human plasma, it would cause less pain and toxicity than the ionic media then in use. The principles and design of such…

Charging Dynamics of Dielectrics Irradiated by Low Energy Electrons

Heinz von Seggern1985-01-01IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science

A recent study by Gross et al. showed the possibility of positive charging of dielectric materials by low energy electron irradiation. In this paper we model the charging process allowing us to predict the voltage builtup or decay and the corresponding charging currents under various initial potential conditions of th…

Nucleotide sequence of theBacillus subtilisxylose isomerase gene: extensive homology between theBacillusandEscherichia colienzyme

M. Wilhelm、Cornelis P. Hollenberg1985-01-01Nucleic Acids Research

The xylose isomerase gene from Bacillus subtilis was cloned from a genomic BamH1 library by complementation of an isomerase defective Escherichia coli strain as previously described. The ATG initiation codon is preceded by a Shine-Dalgarno sequence and two hexamers being characteristic for the promoter region of Bacil…

Crystal structure study of Opsanus tau parvalbumin by multiwavelength anomalous diffraction

Richard Kahn、R. Fourme、R. Bosshard 等 7 位作者1985-01-01FEBS Letters

The crystal structure of a small calcium-binding protein, the parvalbumin IIIf from Opsanus tau in which Tb was substituted for Ca, has been analysed by multiwavelength anomalous diffraction. Data at a resolution of 2.3 A were collected at three wavelengths near the L3 absorption edge of Tb (1.645-1.650 A), using the…

Polydispersity and the fluid-crystalline phase transition

Eric Dickinson、Roger Parker1985-01-01Journal de Physique Lettres

A « critical » degree of polydispersity is postulated beyond which liquid and crystalline states merge. For a system with a triangular particle-size distribution, the disappearance of the melting transition is estimated to occur at levels of just less than 30 % polydispersity.

The crystal structure of katoite and implications within the hydrogrossular group of minerals

M. Sacerdoti、Eliο Passaglia1985-01-01Bulletin de Minéralogie

La structure cristalline de la katoite [Ca3Al2(SiO4 (OH)8 ; a = 12,38 Å ; Z = 8 ; groupe spatial Ia3d] a été affinée jusqu'à R = 0,024. The Effect of Pollutants and Bacterial Microfouling on the Corrosion of Copper Base Alloys in Seawater

David J. Schiffrin、S.R. de Sánchez1985-01-01CORROSION

The effects of seawater contaminants such as ammonium and sulfide ions and trimethylamine on the corrosion behavior of copper base alloys have been studied. Sulfide contamination causes a long-term change in the surface properties of the passive film formed on these alloys in uncontaminated seawater. The kinetics of o…

The synthesis of pure n-paraffins with chain-lengths between one and four hundred

Ilesh Bidd、M. C. Whiting1985-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Syntheses are described for pure paraffins having 102, 150,198, 246, and 390 carbon atoms; unlike lower homologues, all but the first show interesting properties in the solid state, bridging the gap between the chain-extended and the chain-folded modes of crystallisation typical of the lower n-paraffins and the linear…

Chemical characteristics of cellulosic liquid crystals

Derek G. Gray1985-01-01Faraday Discussions of the Chemical Society

Cellulosic derivatives form an interesting range of polymer liquid crystals. They belong to a class of mesophases in which the polymer chain is stiff or semiflexible and is chemically homogeneous. The cellulose backbone, a single-stranded homopolymer of β-linked 1,4-anhydroglucose units, contains three hydroxy groups…

The order parameters < P2 > and < P 4 > in nematic p-alkyl-p' -cyano-biphenyls : polarized Raman measurements and the influence of molecular association

L. G. P. Dalmolen、Stephen J. Picken、A.F. de Jong 等 4 位作者1985-01-01Journal de physique

Values for the order parameters < P2 > and < P4 > from polarized Raman measurements are reported for the homologous series of nematic alkylcyanobiphenyls. With increasing chain length a change of behaviour is observed from « low » < P4 >-values to higher values corresponding to the Maier-Saupe mean-field theory. In ad…
