Abstract Oxygen consumption and yield of oxidation products during γ‐irradiation were studied on five types of polyethylene (PE), ethylene–butene copolymer (EB), and ethylene–propylene copolymer (EPR) using gas chromatography, mass spectrography, and high‐resolution NMR. Samples were irradiated in oxygen under pressur…

Kinetic model of cure reaction and filler effect

Henry S. -Y. Hsich1982-09-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract A new kinetic model for cure reactios has been developed from the concept of nonequilibrium thermodynamic fluctuation theory in which a distribution function relaxation spectrum is used for explaining cure kinetics of polymer–filler systems. It is found that an increase in filler loading reduces the relaxatio…

Statistical approaches for the treatment of anharmonic motion in crystals. II. Anharmonic thermal vibrations and effective atomic potentials in the fast ionic conductor lithium nitride (Li3N)

U. H. Zucker、H. Schulz1982-09-01Acta Crystallographica Section A

Results of X-ray diffraction experiments on lithium nitride (Li3N) in the temperature range between 294 and 888 K show strong anharmonic effects. The deviations from harmonicity cannot be interpreted by interstitial sites or split positions. The application of an anharmonic temperature factor which is based on the Gra…

The authors present the results of high resolution measurements of bremsstrahlung excited Auger electron spectra in the 5d series. The spectra provide an experimental test of atomic models. The measured effective Coulomb interaction between the final state holes displays a jump in value between Pt and Au, analogous to…

Formation and distribution of Mg, Fe, Mn-smectites in the first stages of the lateritic weathering of forsterite and tephroite

D. Nahon、Fabrice Colin、Y. Tardy1982-09-01Clay Minerals

Abstract During weathering of forsterite and tephroite under the humid, tropical conditions of the Ivory Coast, intermediate Mg,Fe 3+ − or Mn 2+ -smectites appear prior to widespread development of iron or manganese oxyhydroxides. In forsterite, the smectite varies from an Mg-trioctahedral variety near the centres of…

Hysteresis Modeling in An Electro-Magnetic Transients Program

James Frame、Narendra Mohan、Tsu-huei Liu1982-09-01IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems

This paper describes an algorithm for representing the transformer hysteresis. This algorithm is useful under transient conditions and has the capability of representing minor loops. It allows the multi-valued hysteresis behavior to be represented as a linear element at each instant of time. This algorithm has been im…

David W L Hukins 1981 Oxford: Pergamon ix + 164 pp price £11.95 Most books on x-ray diffraction relate to crystalline materials (where the solving of structures has become a rather mechanical process) and, because of the breadth of the subject, are either very superficial or indulge in considerable mathematical detail…

The synthesis of macrocyclic polyether‐diesters incorporating 1,10‐phenanthrolino and 1,8‐naphthyridino subunits

Christopher J. Chandler、Leslie W. Deady、J. A. REISS 等 4 位作者1982-09-01Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry

Abstract The preparation of a series of macrocycles, formed by reaction of HO‐(‐CH 2 ‐CH 2 ‐O‐) n H with 1,10‐phenanthroline‐2,9‐dicarbonyl chloride (n = 2,3,4) and 1,8‐naphthyridine‐2,7‐dicarbonyl chloride (n = 3,4), is described. An improved synthetic route to 2,7‐dimethyl‐1,8‐naphthyridine 9 is also reported.

Detection coil, sensitivity function, and sample geometry effects for vibrating sample magnetometers

Andrzej Zięba、S. Foner1982-09-01Review of Scientific Instruments

A general description based on the sensitivity function is presented for the effects of detection coil geometry and sample geometry on the output of a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). This function gives the VSM output versus position of a vibrating dipole. Calculations of the sensitivity function for axial and tr…

A new look at the crystallization of polyethylene. III. Crystallization from the melt at high supercoolings

Peter Barham、Dragan Jarvis、A. Keller1982-09-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract Polyethylene melts normally cannot be crystallized in an isothermally controlled manner below ca. 110°C as crystallization is too fast owing to the presence of preexisting nuclei. We here present a new simple method for producing droplets enabling crystallization to be conducted isothermally down to 75°C and…

Supplement to a Recent Thermodynamic Theory of the Incommensurate Transitions in NaNO2. Accounting for the Observed ε vs T Curve Just Above the Incommensurate-to-Ferroelectric Transition Point

Kêitsirô Aizu1982-09-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The qualitative and quantitative results deduced by a recent theory [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 51 (1982) 515] were found to agree fairly well with the experimental results on NaNO 2 . However, of the theoretical ε vs T graph, the part just above the incommensurate-to-ferroelectric transition point was found to disagree with…
