Magnon Corrections to the Effective Mass of an Electron in a Magnetic Semiconductor

Robert M. White、Roy B. Woolsey1968-12-15Physical Review

We have computed the renormalization of the conduction-electron energy in a degenerate ferromagnetic semiconductor at zero temperature due to the virtual emission and reabsorption of spin waves. We find that as a result of the difference between the up- and down-spin Fermi momenta, this renormalization is quite small.…

Pyrochlores. IV. Crystallographic and Mössbauer studies of A2FeSbO7 pyrochlores

Osvald Knop、F. Brisse、R.E. Meads 等 4 位作者1968-12-15Canadian Journal of Chemistry

The lattice parameters and the quadrupole splittings of the room-temperature Mössbauer spectra of the cubic A 2 FeSbO 7 pyrochlores (A = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Y, Er, Lu) have been found to vary linearly with the Templeton–Dauben radii of the A 3+ ions. The variation of the quadrupole splitting can be correlated with the pos…

Polarization of the Blue-Copper Luminescence in ZnS Crystals

Koichi Urabe、Shigeo Shionoya、Atsushi Suzuki1968-12-15Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

The polarization characteristics of the blue-copper luminescence in a cubic ZnS:Cu, I (Cl, Al or Ga) single crystal grown from the melt were investigated. The polarization with particular azimuthal dependences is observed under polarized characteristic excitation, indicating that the center has its own symmetry lower…

High-Temperature Recovery of Tungsten after Neutron Irradiation

L.K. Keys、James P. Smith、J. Moteff1968-12-15Physical Review

The recovery of neutron-irradiation-induced defects in tungsten has been investigated via isochronal resistivity studies after irradiations from 8.5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{17}$ to 1.5\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{21}$ $n$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\ensuremath{-}2}$ (${E}_{n}>1$ MeV). Isoelectronic Oxygen Trap in ZnTe

J. L. Merz1968-12-15Physical Review

An optical transition at 1.986 eV in ZnTe has earlier been attributed to the radiative recombination of an electron-hole pair bound at an oxygen atom substituting isoelectronically for Te. In this paper the results of isotopic substitution and Zeeman experiments are offered to prove the correctness of this identificat…

Infrared Spectra of Acetonitrile and Acetonitrile-d3

E. L. Pace、Lewis J. Noe1968-12-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

The infrared spectra of acetonitrile and acetonitrile-d3 have been studied at − 50°C for the high-temperature (β) crystalline phase and at − 65°, − 115° and − 192°C for the low-temperature (α) crystalline phase. A powder x-ray pattern obtained at liquid-nitrogen temperature indicates that the unit cell is primitive or…

Magnetic Properties and Crystal Distortions of BiMnO3and BiCrO3

Fuyuhiko Sugawara、Shuichi Iiida、Yasuhiko Syono 等 4 位作者1968-12-15Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

Magnetic perovskites BiMnO 3 and BiCrO 3 were synthesized under very high pressures. There are phase transitions at 500°K and 410°K at atmospheric pressure for BiMnO 3 and BiCrO 3 respectively, and the crystal distortion of each phase was determined. BiMnO 3 is ferromagnetic below 103°K, while BiCrO 3 is inferred to b…

Thermoreflectance in Semiconductors

E. Matatagui、A. G. Thompson、M. Cardona1968-12-15Physical Review

The thermoreflectance spectra of Si, AlSb, GaP, GaAs, GaSb, InP, InAs, InSb, ZnO, ZnS, ZnSe, ZnTe, CdS, CdSe, CdTe, HgSe, and HgTe are reported. Measurements were made on most materials at both room and liquid-nitrogen temperatures. The positions of the peaks observed are compared with previous reflectance and electro…

Matrix Perturbations of the ESR of Trapped H, N, P, and As Atoms at 4.2°K

George S. Jackel、William H. Nelson、Walter Gordy1968-12-10Physical Review

Electron-spin-resonance spectra of N, P, As, and H atoms trapped in matrices formed from rare-gas elements at 4.2\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K have been studied. The isotropic hyperfine coupling of N and P increases with the atomic number of the matrix element whereas that of As decreases. The van der Waals int…

A discussion on the origin and treatment of noise in industrial environments - Noise control on textile machinery

Robert Crawford1968-12-05Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London Series A Mathematical and Physical Sciences

Abstract In the textile industry as a whole the pattern of machine layout and operation has been changed little over the years. Banks of machines, housed in large factory areas, are crowded together to preserve floor space and optimize production in both the natural and man-made fibres industries. Noise in the mills a…

Solution-grown crystals of poly(vinyl alcohol)

Kiyoshi Tsuboi1968-12-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

The growth mechanism and crystalline texture of solution-grown crystals of poly(vinyl alcohol) have been studied by electron microscopy. From morphological data it is shown that single crystals of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) have two growth faces, i.e., the (100) and (101) fold planes. It is suggested that the parallelo…

Navicula endophyticaSp.Nov., A pennate diatom with an unusual mode of existence

Grethe Rytter Hasle1968-12-01British Phycological Bulletin

The diatom Navicula endophytica sp. nov., first observed by Baardseth (1966) in the intercellular substance of receptacles of Ascophyllum nodosum, is described. The species has been encountered neither as an epiphyte on this seaweed nor as a planktonic form.

Nachweis interstitieller Wasserstoffeinlagerung in NiCu-Legierungen auf magnetischem und röntgenographischem Wege

H. J. Bauer、G. Berninger、G. Zimmermann1968-12-01Zeitschrift für Naturforschung A

Ferromagnetic nickel-copper alloys can be charged with cathodic hydrogen in high concentrations whereby they loose their ferromagnetic behavior. Measurements of magnetization of these alloys show a quicker absorption of hydrogen compared to nickel. The interstitial occlusion of hydrogen gives rise to a reversible latt…

The spin-wave stiffness of dilute iron-palladium alloys

M. W. Stringfellow1968-12-01Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

The spin-wave stiffness D of iron-palladium alloys containing 10, 22, 40 and 100 at.% iron has been measured by the neutron small-angle-scattering technique. The values of D are consistent with those derived from low-temperature saturation magnetization and specific heat measurements on alloys with iron concentrations…

K. Speakman1968-12-01Mineralogical Magazine and Journal of the Mineralogical Society

Summary Hydrothermal studies in the silica-rich region of the CaO-SiO 2 -H 2 O system have given information on the stability field of tobermorite. At saturated steam pressures tobermorite is unstable relative to xonotlite (C 6 S 6 H) above 140 °C but between 10 000 and 40 000 lb/in. 2 (69 and 276 N/mm 2 ), the decomp…
