Demetri J. Photinos、Philip J. Bos、J. W. Doane 等 4 位作者1979-11-01Physical Review A

Deuterium magnetic-resonance studies of spectral patterns from spinning samples are made to measure the relative contribution of various orientational order mechanisms to the biaxiality of the hydrocarbon chain in the smectic $C$ phase. The detailed theory of motional averaging as applied to the spinning techniques is…

Morphology and properties of low‐density (branched) polyethylene

L. Mandelkern、J. Maxfield1979-11-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Physics Edition

Abstract The different types of morphology that can be developed in a large number of low‐density (branched) polyethylene whole polymers, as well as in a series of fractions, have been studied for two different extreme crystallization modes. Concomitantly, thermodynamic properties of the same samples have also been de…

Measurement and scale‐up of secondary nucleation kinetics for the potash alum‐water system

John Garside、Slobodan J. Jančić1979-11-01AIChE Journal

Abstract Secondary nucleation kinetics for potash alum in draft‐tube baffled crystallizers have been determined from steady state crystal size distributions measured down to about 5 μm. Differences in nucleation rates were found for crystallizers of similar geometry but different capacity. Models relating the frequenc…

Thermal transition behavior of polybutadiene containing polyurethanes

N. S. Schneider、R. W. Matton1979-11-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The thermal transition behavior of a series of hydroxy terminated polybutadiene (HTPBD) containing segmented polyurethanes has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal mechanical analysis (TMA). Four transition regions are observed; the soft segment T g , at −74°C, two hard segment…

A new model of isothermal charge transport for negatively corona-charged Teflon

Heinz von Seggern1979-11-01Journal of Applied Physics

In this paper we study theoretically and experimentally the transport of electrons in Teflon FEP type A under isothermal conditions (145 °C) in open circuit. We suggest a theoretical model including surface, shallow, and deep traps. The model leads to a system of partial differential equations which was solved numeric…

Coupling of optical and mechanical properties in crystalline polymers

James C. Seferis、Robert J. Samuels1979-11-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract The modules and birefringence of oriented polymers are known to couple through the structural and intrinsic properties of the polymer. Recent developments in both optical and mechanical theories have allowed this coupling to be expanded so that it includes predictions of modulus and refractive indices of unia…

Misorientation dependence of grain boundary sliding in 〈1010〉 tilt zinc bicrystals

Tadao Watanabe、Masayuki Yamada、Seiichi Karashima 等 4 位作者1979-11-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

The misorientation dependence of grain boundary sliding and effects of grain boundary structure and crystal deformation on sliding have been studied by experiments using 〈1010〉 tilt zinc bicrystals with different misorientations. The results have shown that grain boundary sliding strongly depends on the misorientation…

Short-range ordering in PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3

H. B. Krause、J. M. Cowley、J. C. Wheatley1979-11-01Acta Crystallographica Section A

High-resolution electron-microscope images in conjunction with selected-area electron diffraction were used to investigate the short-range order in PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3. Intensity fluctuations of the [110] image indicated ordered domains extending over about 20 to 50 Å. Decomposition phases were observed.

The Archimedean truncated octahedron, and packing of geometric units in cubic crystal structures

Chung Chieh1979-11-01Acta Crystallographica Section A

Any cubic crystal structure can be divided into small units in the form of congruent semi-regular (Archimedean) truncated octahedra. The centers of these polyhedra can be chosen at invariant equivalent positions for most cubic space groups. The part of a crystal structure enclosed by an Archimedean polyhedron is calle…

Richard W. Babbitt、Richard A. Stern1979-11-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

Ferrite devices for millimeter frequencies, 35 GHz to 94 GHz, are difficult to fabricate and have marginal performance. This paper discusses the design and arc plasma fabrication process for non-reciprocal ferrite phase shifters for millimeter frequencies. Design and fabrication techniques were developed for 35 GHz, p…

R. G. Munro、S. Block、G. J. Piermarini1979-11-01Journal of Applied Physics

The determination of the glass-transition pressure by the ruby R1 line-broadening method is quantitatively confirmed to within 10% by an independent method. The procedure utilizes a model which describes the pressure dependence of the viscosity and contains the glass-transition pressure as a parameter. The two methods…
