SYNTHESES AND PROPERTIES OF BINAPHTHO[1,8-de]-1,3-DITHIIN-2-YLIDENE AND ITS SELENIUM ANALOGUE

Koji Yui、Yoshio Aso、Tetsuo Otsubo 等 4 位作者1986-04-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract With a view to discovering new electron donors for low-dimensionally metallic materials, the title compounds were prepared via the corresponding 1,8-dichalcogen-bridged naphthalenes. Their donor characters were examined by cyclic voltammetry, as compared with those of the reference compounds.

Chemical reactions in the bulk of the epoxy‐functional silane hydrolyzate

G. Xue、Hatsuo Ishida、J. L. Koenig1986-04-01Die Angewandte Makromolekulare Chemie

Abstract Chemical reactions in the epoxy‐functional silane hydrolyzate bulk have been studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR). It was found that the silanol group opened the epoxy ring upon heating, concurrently with the silanol condensation. The kinetics of these reactions were studied, and the rel…

Flame‐resistant polycaproamide by anionic polymerization of ϵ‐caprolactam in the presence of suitable flame‐retardant agents

Giovanni C. Alfonso、Giovanna Costa、Massimo Pasolini 等 7 位作者1986-04-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Poly(ϵ‐caprolactam) (PCL) with improved flame‐retardant (FR) properties can be easily obtained by activated anionic polymerization of the monomer, ϵ‐caprolactam (C), in the presence of adequate amounts of red phosphorus (red P). Analogous results with reduced P content can be achieved by coupling red P with a…

Brittleness Dependence of Crack Branching in Ceramics

H. P. Kirchner1986-04-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

A linear correlation between the degree of overloading on the crack tip and brittleness was observed. The intercept, which was √2, is identified with a minimum condition of overloading where branching occurs at twice the fracture energy. The slope was identified with the degree of plastic deformation at the crack tip…

GENERATION OF ORGANIC CONDUCTING PATTERNS ON SEMICONDUCTORS BY PHOTOELECTROCHEMICAL POLYMERIZATION OF PYRROLE

Mitsutoshi Okano、Kiminori Itoh、Akira Fujishima 等 4 位作者1986-04-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Photoelectrochemical polymerization of pyrrole occurs at irradiated areas of semiconducting electrodes in aqueous solution of pyrrole. Organic conducting polypyrrole patterns were formed on semiconductors by area-selective irradiation of the semiconductor electrodes. The deposition rate was 0.5–0.7 μm per 100…

Heat-capacity study of one liquid-crystal compound with smectic-A–hexatic-B–crystal-Btransition

C. C. Huang、George Nounesis、D. Guillon1986-04-01Physical Review A

High-resolution heat capacity measurements have been carried out in the smectic-A--hexatic-B--crystal-B transitions of the compound 4-propionyl-4'-(n-heptanoyloxy)azobenzene. Qualitatively, the heat-capacity anomalies of this smectic-A--hexatic-B--crystal-B transition sequence mimic those of the smectic-C--smectic-I--…

Exact solution of Dill's model equations for positive photoresist kinetics

S. V. Babu、Eytan Barouch1986-04-01IEEE Electron Device Letters

The equations of Dill for bleaching of photoactive compound in positive photoresists have been solved analytically in closed form. As an application, the contrast γ, has been evaluated explicitly in the absence of reflection from the substrate.

Two New Techniques for Determining the Thermal Radiative Properties of Thin Fabrics

Brad Cain、B. Farnworth1986-04-01Journal of Thermal Insulation

Two new techniques for determining the emissivity, reflectivity and transmissivity of fabrics in the infra-red region of the spectrum are described and experimental results reported. Results obtained by both techniques compared favourably. The thermal radiative properties of many textile fabrics were found to be somew…

Theory of the temperature-dependent plastic flow in L12, alloys with unstable APBs on {111} planes

G. Tichy、V. Vítek、D. P. Pope1986-04-01Philosophical magazine. A/Philosophical magazine. A. Physics of condensed matter. Structure, defects and mechanical properties

A model is developed for the thermally activated motion of 1/2〈110〉 superpartial dislocations on {010} planes and 1/3〈112〉 superpartials on {111} planes, when antiphase boundaries on {111} planes are unstable. These two superpartials are sessile because they have non-planar cores. The model is based on Duesbery′s mode…

Thermodynamics of the metal-insulator transition: Discontinuous transitions in the paramagnetic phase

J. Spał ek、Amlan Datta、J.M. Honig1986-04-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We analyze the thermodynamic properties of the metal-insulator transitions at nonzero temperature in the paramagnetic phase, within a model proposed recently. The correlated motion of electrons is expressed through a band narrowing \ensuremath{\Phi} which reflects a restricted hopping of electrons due to on-site Coulo…

The Polymer Model of Thermochemical Clay Mineral Stability

Garrison Sposito1986-04-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract The Nriagu polymer model of 2:1 layer type clay minerals develops from the premise that clay minerals are condensation copolymers of solid hydroxides. In the Mattigod-Sposito formulation of the model, standard state chemical potentials (standard Gibbs energies of formation from the elements) of 2:1 clay miner…

Liquid–solid and solid–state phase equilibria have been studied in the Ni–NiAl–Ni3Ta triangle of the Ni–AI–Ta system, using a combination of several experimental techniques. Five primary phases occur in this region, including the ternary compound, π, Ni6TaAI, which enters into equilibrium with each of the other four.…

Engineering ceramics – the process problem

Neil McN. Alford、J. D. Birchall、K. Kendall1986-04-01Materials Science and Technology

The main problem to be solved before advanced engineering ceramics can become industrial reality is that components having reliable and consistent properties cannot be made, and rejection rates can be as high as 95%, in stark contrast to the situation with metals and polymers. This results from the small size of defec…
