Tight-binding calculations, using a two-dimensional model of the graphite lattice, lead to a point of contact of valence and conduction bands at the corner of the reduced Brillouin zone. A perturbation calculation which starts with wave functions of the two-dimensional lattice and is applied to the three-dimensional l…

H.B. In this article the authors seek to compute the percentage of comber waste, to make some modifications or improvements in the constitutent parts of the combers now in use, and to find a guide to further study on the subject. As regards combing action in a cotton comber, we have made some theoretical approaches from th…

(1) The stiffness of textile fabrics depends upon its bending directions, and in general the stiffness in bias directions is relatively small.(2) In so far as the bending is concerned, the fabrics are like 2-plywood but when woven into typical ribs in one direction they become like in mono-plywood.(3) The stiffness in…

Abstract Type species for the trilobite genus Pseudocryphaeus and the subgenus Asteropyge (Metacanthina), proposed and briefly described in 1953, are here described in detail, as well as several related forms, including the new subspecies A. (M.) oehlerti praecursor and P. michelini barroisi.

In order to build up a background to the relative difficulty for burning the different raw materials in cement production the solid phase reactions between SiO2 and either CaCO3 or BaCO3 at the temperatures ranging 500°-800°C were studied by measuring the amount of CO2 liberated during the reaction. Then, applying the…

We have studied the martensite transformation of Cu-Al binary alloys which contained 12, 18%Al. From the results of our experiment, we found that there were two types of β′ transformed from β by martensitic way when β was cooled with different velocities. The one type occurred when the Vc (cooling velocity) became gre…

A study has been made of the factors that affect or bring about the corrosion of the zinc electrode in a silver‐zinc‐alkali cell. Cells containing 30% potassium hydroxide as electrolyte were used and kept at room temperature. Special attention was centered on open circuit or stand conditions. This corrosion is affecte…

A new method of preparing cadmium niobate was demonstrated. This method involved the anodic spark reaction of cadmium in a niobate solution and crystallization of the anode product by heating at 650°C. The crystallized anode product was made into a solid wafer by pressing it at 350,000 psi, and electrical measurements…

Phase equilibrium data have been obtained for compositions in the ternary system lying near the compound, particularly those on the orthophosphate join. It was found that "gamma zinc orthophosphate" is a ternary solid solution which has a region of stability on the orthophosphate join ranging from about 5 to about 25…
