Raman Study on the High Temperature Transition in V2O3

Atsushi Okamoto、Yoshitaka Fujita、C. Tatsuyama1983-01-01Journal of the Physical Society of Japan

We have measured the Raman scatterings of V 2 O 3 and (V 0.985 Cr 0.015 ) 2 O 3 in the temperature range between 300 and 600 K. The Raman frequencies of A 1 g phonon modes in V 2 O 3 show some softening and recovery with a minimum at 480 K in the region of the high temperature transition. Those in (V 0.985 Cr 0.015 )…

Homeotropic nematics heated from above under magnetic fields: convective thresholds and geometry

J. Salán、E. Guyon1983-01-01Journal of Fluid Mechanics

The thermal convective instability of a nematic layer aligned perpendicular to horizontal plates displays original characteristics, due to the coupling of the nematic distortion with the temperature gradient; in particular the adverse temperature gradient threshold Δ T c can be modified by the application of a vertica…

Relation between Graphitic Corrosion and Strength-degradation of Cast Iron Pipe

Kazuo Yamamoto、Shigeru Mizoguti、Kunimasa Yoshimitsu 等 4 位作者1983-01-01Corrosion engineering digest

The corrosion behavior and the degradation of the gray cast-iron pipes, which had been buried for 22 to 79 years and used for natural water, have been investigated. The rate of the graphitic corrosion of pipes was in the range of 0.167 to 0.25mm/yr. The graphitization reduced the real wall thickness so that the streng…

The influence of defects in the pb and o sub-lattices on dielectric properties and phase transitions in PbZrO3

Z. Ujma、J. Hańderek1983-01-01Phase Transitions

From studies of the influence of controlled introduction of defects into the Pb and O sub-lattices of PbZrO3 it was ascertained that marked changes are caused in the dielectric parameters and the transitions between the antiferroelectric and ferroelectric states and the ferroelectric and paraeiectric states. With incr…

Pyrolysis of unsaturated polyester resin. Quantitative aspects

M. Ravey1983-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Polymer Chemistry Edition

Abstract The thermal decomposition of this resin was examined by quantitative pyrolysis—gas chromatography. The decomposition does not follow the Hurd–Blunck mechanism generally obeyed by beta‐hydrogen containing esters. Instead, phthalic anhydride is extruded almost quantitatively. It is proposed that the mechanism i…

Studies on the constituents of asclepiadaceae plants. LIII. The structures of glaucogenin-A, -B, and -C mono-D-thevetoside from the chinese drug "pai-ch'ien," Cynanchum glaucescens Hand-Mazz.

Takashi Nakagawa、Kôji Hayashi、Hiroshi Mitsuhashi1983-01-01Chemical and Pharmaceutical Bulletin

The aglycone portion of the glycosides of the chinese crude drug "Pai-ch'ien" was investigated. Three new compounds named glaucogenin-A (1), -B (3), and -C mono-D-thevetoside (8) were isolated and their structures were characterized on the basis of spectroscopic and chemical evidence, and that of 8 was determined by X…

Relationship between structure and fracture behaviour in 6W–5Mo–2V type high-speed steel

S. A. Horton、H. C. Child1983-01-01Metals Technology

The relationship between the microstructure and properties of high-speed steels has been examined, with particular reference to fracture toughness (as measured by KIC) and fatigue-crack growth rates. Different microstructures have been obtained by varying the heat-treatment parameters - austenitizing temperatures and…

The kinetics of the decomposition of [PW12O40]3–(1.5 × 10–5 mol dm–3) to [WO4]2– and [PO4]3– has been studied in the range pH 7–9 at an ionic strength of 0.1 mol dm–3. The reaction proceeds via the intermediates [PW11O39]7– and [PW9O34]9–. Only the final stage, the hydrolysis of [PW9O34]9–, was studied in detail. The…

Role of sulphide inclusions in pitting and crevice corrosion of stainless steels

A. J. Sedriks1983-01-01International Metals Reviews

The role of sulphide inclusions in the pitting and crevice corrosion of stainless steels is reviewed. It is noted that manganese sulphides, particularly those containing a central oxide core, are the most favourable sites for pit initiation. Replacing the manganese in the sulphide by chromium renders pit initiation mo…

Effect of Carbon on the Hydrogen Induced Grain Boundary Fracture in Iron

Akihiko Kimura、Hiroshi Kimura1983-01-01Journal of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials

Carbon tends to suppress the grain boundary fracture (GBFR) of α-iron, which is promoted by the segregation of phosphorus and other impurities to grain boundaries. This effect of carbon is due to its grain boundary segregation. It is shown in the present paper that the same effect of carbon is observed when hydrogen i…
