Unoxidized Aluminum Particles in Anodic Alumina Films

Mitsunori Saito、Yuko Shiga、Mitsunobu Miyagi1993-07-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Alumina films which were anodized in a sulfuric acid solution were studied optically and chemically to verify the presence of unoxidized aluminum in the films. We extracted metallic aluminum from anodic alumina films by using bromine methanol and detected unoxidized aluminum successfully. The volume ratio of unoxidize…

Ammonium fixation by soil and pure clay minerals

Martha Mamo、Robert W. Taylor、James W. Shuford1993-07-01Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis

Fixation of the ammonium ion (NH4 +) by clay minerals is an alternate way of building the nitrogen (N) pool in soil to optimize N crop recovery and minimize losses. Clay minerals (illite, montmorillonite, and vermiculite) and an illitic Portnoeuf soil were used to compare NH4 + fixation abilities. Total N determinatio…

CdS by XPS

D. M. Poirier、J. H. Weaver1993-07-01Surface Science Spectra

XPS spectra were recorded for a poly crystalline CdS sample. For comparison, a surface exposed to air for 1 h (Accession #00115) and a surface prepared by cleaving in situ (Accession #00114) were examined. The record includes Cd 4d, S 2p, Cd 3d, Cd MNN, and valence band spectra.

Preparation and Phase Separation Behavior of (Co,Fe) 3 O 4 Films

Shin‐ichi Hirano、Toshinobu Yogo、Koichi Kikuta 等 6 位作者1993-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

(Co,Fe) 3 O 4 films were synthesized by the sol–gel method through metalorganic compounds. The (Co,Fe) 3 O 4 films (Co:Fe = 2:1) showed the characteristic behavior of the spinodal decomposition by heat treatments within the miscibility gap. The coercive force of the spinodally decomposed films increased from 0.9 kOe f…

Design of a detection coil system for a biaxial vibrating sample magnetometer and some applications

J.P.C. Bernards1993-07-01Review of Scientific Instruments

A theoretical expression for the sensitivity of a detection coil for a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) is derived. This expression is used to design a detection coil system for a biaxial VSM for measuring the magnetization components in the direction of the applied field (x direction) and perpendicular to the appl…

Deposition of Y2O3 by plasma enhanced organometallic chemical vapor deposition using an electron cyclotron resonance source

W. J. Varhue、Maurice Massimo、J. M. Carrulli 等 6 位作者1993-07-01Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A Vacuum Surfaces and Films

Deposition of Y2O3 films on Si is of interest due to its use as a heteroepitaxial dielectric material to obtain Si-on-insulator or as an epitaxial buffer layer for the growth of YBa2Cu3Ox, high temperature superconductors on Si. In this investigation, Y2O3 films have been deposited in the downstream location in an ele…

Slow modes in crystals: A method to study elastic constants

Grzegorz Szamel、M. H. Ernst1993-07-01Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We propose a microscopic expression for a displacement field in a crystal and derive nondissipative equations of motion for the slow hydrodynamic and broken-symmetry modes, including the vacancy-diffusion mode. Comparing these equations with the macroscopic ideal equations of elasticity we obtain exact expressions for…

Abstract New photochemically labile phosphate protecting group was developed. These phosphate esters have high molar extinction coefficient (ε340 = 34500 dm3 mol−1 cm−1) and rapidly release parent phosphates upon irradiation ( >300 nm) with high quantum efficiency for disappearance (φdis = 0.22 at 340 nm).

Cheryl R. Blanchard、Kwai S. Chan1993-07-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Detailed microscopy of two crept aluminas, one with (AD99) and one without (Lucalox) a grain boundary glassy phase, has been performed to determine the pertinent damage mechanisms during creep. Evidence is presented for a nucleation‐controlled cavitation process where creep cavities nucleate primarily on two‐grain fac…

Tensile Fatigue Behavior of Staple Yarns

Rajesh D. Anandjiwala、Bhuvenesh C. Goswami1993-07-01Textile Research Journal

The failure of warp yarns on a loom is often caused by repeated cyclical elongation at small stresses well below the breaking point applied under static load. The phenom enon, commonly known as fatigue, is caused by the gradually diminishing resistance of the material, attributable to cumulative damage. Generally, the…

Ch. Charbon、M. Rappaz1993-07-01Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering

The equiaxed solidification of eutectic alloys is modelled by a probablistic method. The volume of the specimen is divided into a regular network of cubic cells and the temperature is assumed to be uniform. The temperature of the specimen is calculated in a time-stepping scheme from a simple heat balance and a knowled…
