We report on sequential three-step three-photon near-infrared (NIR) quantum splitting in Tm3+-doped β-NaYF4, where an incident blue photon around 470 nm is split into three NIR photons (1165, 1466, and 1800 nm). The underlying mechanism is analyzed by means of static and dynamic photoemission spectroscopy. Here, an ex…

We have fabricated gold nanoparticle (AuNP) arrays on indium-tin oxide (ITO) substrates in a nearly one-dimensional fashion. AuNPs were site-selectively immobilized on ITO of which the surface had been patterned by a nanolithography process based on scanning probe microscopy. The fabricated nanoscale lines covered wit…

To make "clean" reduced GO sheets in high quality and in large scale, a natural reduced nicotinamine adenine dinucleotide NAD(P)H model, Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridine (HEH), is used as a mild organic photoreductant in this work. Benefiting from the intense absorption of HEH in the range of 300-420 nm, the graphene oxid…

Abstract While plastics offer many conveniences to modern consumers, they represent unsustainable practices that hinder economic growth and environmental stability. Therefore, the production of biodegradable plastic from alternative feedstocks is investigated to replace conventional plastics in packaging and short‐ter…

A charge density distribution scanning system is fabricated using an electrostatic probe, which utilizes DC voltage feedback principle to nullify the electric field between the probe and charged insulator surface. A two-layer structure pipe is designed to lower the surface potential after discharge. In this way, the s…

We study tunneling across a strain-induced superlattice in graphene. In studying the effect of applied strain on the low-lying Dirac-like spectrum, both a shift of the Dirac points in reciprocal space, and a deformation of the Dirac cones is explicitly considered. The latter corresponds to an anisotropic, possibly non…

First principle calculations are performed to show that the bending rigidity of graphene can be softened considerably with in-plane stretching. This phenomenon can be attributed to stretch-induced loosening of atomic packing and should be of fundamental significance for graphene-based structures and devices.
