The energy levels of the nickel atom in all of its stages of ionization, as derived from the analyses of atomic spectra, have been critically compiled. In cases where only line classifications are reported in the literature, level values have been derived. Electron configurations, term designations, J-values, experime…

« Nematic lyotropic » phases are anisotropic fluids made of aggregates of amphiphilic molecules dispersed in water. Their nematic behaviour (flow, orientation in a magnetic field) is related to the orientational correlations between the aggregates which are anisotropic particles of finite dimensions. Therefore they ar…

The oil-soluble degradation products formed in heated samples of oil containing zinc di(n-, iso- or s-butyl)dithiophosphate (ZDTP) additives have been identified using 1H and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The final degradation product in each case is S,S,S-trialkyltetrathiophosphate, SP(SR)3. The interm…

Furutobeite, (Cu, Ag)₆PbS₄ is a new sulfide species discovered at the Furutobe mine, Akita Prefecture, Japan. It occurs only as minute (< 0.3 mm) grains intimately associated with stromeyerite, galena, sphalerite and tennantite in bornite from upper part of the stratabound sulfide ore zone consisting of sphalerite, ga…

Metastable SrSiO3 was formed during the course of the reaction between an equimolar mixture of SrCO3 and SiO2. The reaction was found to proceed in four stages, (1)–(4). The overall reaction of (1) and (2) was best described 2 SrCO3+ SiO2→ Sr2SiO4+ 2 CO2(1), SrCO3+ SiO2→ SrSiO3(metastable)+ CO2(2), SrSiO3(metastable)…

This paper deals with the genetic mechanism of the morphologies present in BaCO₃and CaCO₃ grown by silica gel technique at basic pH. Our results show that a siliceous matrix acting as support induces the whole morphology of the aggregate. Earlier, the existence of such a membrane was inferred from physico-chemical con…

The interaction of ethanol with clean and oxidized films of Ni, Pd and Al has been investigated in the temperature range 223–450 K. Dissociative adsorption of ethanol on the clean surfaces took place even at 223 K. Reversible molecular adsorption of ethanol occurred on oxidized Al films. Adsorption of ethanol on Ni an…

Complexes [Fe2IIIMIIO(MeCO2)6py3]py (M = Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, or Zn; py = pyridine), isomorphous(except for M = Ni) with the mixed-valence compounds [M3O(MeCO2)6py3]py (M = Mn or Fe), are reported; their magnetic properties provide new information about superexchange pathways in the trinuclear basic carboxylate system.

Infrared spectroscopic techniques have been used to study the effects of electron radiation on the polyimide PMDA-p, p'-ODA. The radiation exposures were made at various dose rates for a total dose approximately equal to that for 30 years of exposure to electron radiation in geosynchronous Earth orbit. At high dose ra…

Abstract Single crystals of the composition 6 Ca 2 SiO 4 · 1 Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 have been grown by the Verneuil-method. The crystals represent a structure derivative of α′ -Ca 2 SiO 4 . Due to twinning of the crystals a structure determination was possible only on the basis of the weak superlattice reflections [ Pnm 2 1 ;…
