Electron Polarization

C. G. Shull、Carl T. Chase、F. E. Myers1943-01-01Physical Review

The double scattering experiment has been repeated with a 400-kev beam of electrons obtained from a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator. The electrons are scattered by thin gold foils and are counted by Geiger-M\"uller counters. After eliminating spurious asymmetries, a polarization asymmetry of 8 percent for gold f…

Berechnung der Lichtzerstreuung von Fadenkettenlösungen

Th.

Fatigue of Fabrics

W. F. Busse、E. T. Lessig、D. L. Loughborough 等 4 位作者1942-11-01Journal of Applied Physics

The effect of temperature and time of application of load on the growth and the apparent ``tensile strength'' of fabrics was studied with a number of new tests. The results gave considerable information about the mechanism of failure of mechanical fabrics at low loads in service which could not be obtained with standa…

Specific Surface Measurements on Compact Bundles of Parallel Fibers

R. R. Sullivan1942-11-01Journal of Applied Physics

The flow of air through compact bundles of parallel textile fibers has been studied in order to obtain values of the shape factor k0 for the channels through which the flow takes place. When the fibers are cylinders and the flow is parallel to their axes, k0 is an increasing function of the porosity ε. Tables and curv…

Factors affecting the mechanical deterioration of cellulose insulation

F. M. Clark1942-10-01Electrical Engineering

The rate of mechanical deterioration of cellulose insulation is dependent on the conditions of its use. Those factors of major importance are the temperature applied and the presence of oxygen and moisture. Moisture even in small amounts greatly affects the mechanical stability of the cellulose insulation. In general,…

Electrodeposition of Nickel‐Tungsten Alloys from an Acid Plating Bath

M. L. Holt、Mads Nielsen1942-10-01Transactions of The Electrochemical Society

Nickel‐tungsten alloys have been electrodeposited from the Watts type nickel plating bath which was modified by the addition of small amounts of sodium tungstate. Alloy composition and current efficiencies were studied at various cathode current densities, bath pH's and bath temperatures. Many of the cathode deposits…

The structure of graphite

Henry S. Lipson、A. R. STOKES1942-09-24Proceedings of the Royal Society of London A Mathematical and Physical Sciences

Abstract A new structure of carbon is proposed in order to account for the occurrence of extra lines on X-ray powder photographs of graphite. It has hexagonal layers similar to those of graphite, but arranged in a different sequence. About 14 % of the new structure is present in the samples examined.
