Infrared Spectra of Anhydrous Rare-Earth Nitrates from 4000–100 cm−1

The infrared spectra of the anhydrous rare-earth nitrates are presented in the region 4000–100 cm−1. Strong coordination of the nitrate groups to the metal atom occurs. Possible different types of metal—oxygen bonding in these compounds is discussed.

Infrared-active lattice vibrational spectra of α-Al2O3 and Cr2O3 have been investigated by reflection and transmission measurements on single crystal samples and also by transmission on Nujol mulled Cr2O3. Single-crystal transmission data above 700 cm−1 have been assigned to combinations and overtones.
