Oxidation of Anhydrides Over MgO Promoted Cobalt and Vanadium Oxide Catalysts

Tharathon Mongkhonsi、Surangkana Umpo、Pongsakorn Thongsang2002-10-01Chemistry Letters

Abstract Phthalic anhydride and maleic anhydride could be completely oxidised to CO2 and H2O over Co-Mg-O/Al2O3 and V-Mg-O/TiO2 catalysts. Experimental results showed that the cobalt and vanadium oxide catalysts promoted with MgO had superior combustion activity than the unpromoted catalysts.

Effect of domain size on the magneto-elastic damping in amorphous ferromagnetic metals

G. Herzer2002-10-01International Journal of Materials Research (formerly Zeitschrift fuer Metallkunde)

Abstract We show that the damping of longitudinal mechanical oscillations in soft magnetic amorphous ribbons can be significantly reduced by domain refinement. The latter is realized by an out-of-plane anisotropy induced by magnetic field annealing. The phenomena is interpreted in terms of micro eddy currents associat…

Physical and chemical features of red clays in Northern Hungary

József Fekete2002-10-01Central European Geology

Hungarian red clays are the result of soil formation from previous geologic periods. They were spread over areas which were dry during the Tertiary Period and were not covered by sediments. The climate of the Quaternary Period eroded them, so that today they can only be found in areas where they were protected against…

A New Tensile Model for Rotor Spun Yarns

Xinyu Jiang、Jinlian Hu、R. Postle2002-10-01Textile Research Journal

This paper reports a refined model to predict the tensile behavior of rotor spun yarn from the knowledge of specimen specifications and yarn strain. Fundamental approaches used in modeling include a discrete fiber-modeling principle, an energy method, and a "shortest-path" hypothesis. The study is based on a coaxial-h…

Control of carbon disulfide emissions from viscose processes

Joseph C. Enneking2002-10-01Environmental Progress

Abstract The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a proposed rule for control of hazardous air pollutants from cellulose manufacturing operations. Both the hydrogen sulfide and carbon disulfide emissions must be controlled. An activated carbon‐based process has been developed which effectively removes…

Syntheses of biodegradable (multi) block copolymers, star‐shaped polyesters and networks via ring‐expansion polymerization

Hans R. Kricheldorf2002-10-01Polymers for Advanced Technologies

Abstract Numerous cyclic dibutyltin alkoxides were prepared by condensation of Bu 2 Sn(OMe) 2 with various short or long α,ω‐diols. Insertion of lactones or lactide into the SnO bonds resulted in ring‐expansion polymerizations which allowed a control of the ring size (chain length) via the monomer initiator ratio. Wh…

Mathematical Model for Diffusion of a Protein and a Precipitant about a Growing Protein Crystal in Microgravity

Onofrio Annunziata、John G. Albright2002-10-01Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences

Equations are presented that model diffusion of a protein to the surface of a growing crystal in a convection-free environment. The equations apply to crystal growth solutions that contain both a protein and a protein precipitant. The solutions are assumed ternary and the equations include all four diffusion coefficie…

Surface modification of polyimide film by ion implantation

Jong‐Taek Kim、Jongkwan Park、Duck‐Chool Lee2002-10-01Polymer International

Abstract The influence of ion implantation on the surface properties of polyimide was studied. We investigated microhardness, friction, wear and wettablility of polyimide. Energies of 50 keV and 200 keV were used, with doses ranging from 1 × 10 13 to 1 × 10 16 ion cm −2 . The implanted ion species were B, N and Ar. Th…

Nonlinear control of a batch crystallizer

J. R. Corriou、Sohrab Rohani2002-10-01Chemical Engineering Communications

A nonlinear geometric feedback controller with and without state estimation (the extended continuous-discrete Kalman filter) is developed and applied to a 0.027 m 3 potash alum batch crystallizer. The manipulated variable isthetemperature of the inlet cooling water supplied to the jacket of the crystallizer, and the c…

Vapor Bubbles in Flow and Acoustic Fields

Andréa Prosperetti、Yue Hao2002-10-01Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences

A review of several aspects of the interaction of bubbles with acoustic and flow fields is presented. The focus of the paper is on bubbles in hot liquids, in which the bubble contains mostly vapor, with little or no permanent gas. The topics covered include the effect of translation on condensation in a subcooled liqu…
