Dynamic mechanical loss of solution-grown polyethylene crystals is measured by the suspension method as a function of temperature and the crystalline dispersion (α dispersion) is observed above 40°C in just the same manner as in melt-grown polyethylene. In the temperature range of this dispersion, the ratio of crystal…

Abstract The rate of decomposition of dicumyl peroxide in natural rubber has been measured at four temperatures and the results lead to the expression k = 3.9 × 1013e−32500/RT for the rate constant. The crosslinking efficiency is high and is constant over the range 110 to 140°C. The low values found for the ratio of a…

Electron transmission microscopy and selected area diffraction have shown that the dislocation loops in aluminium bombarded with 38 Mev alpha-particles lie generally upon the {110} planes with a [110] Burgers vector normal to the loop. These loops are only seen where the alpha-particles come to rest. The theory of dif…

Abstract A good yield (97%) of MgBH 4 is obtained by interaction of magnesium hydrides with diborane in a glycol ether medium or a mixture of glycol ether and benzene (1:3) at 80°. Interaction of the borohydride with boron trichloride in benzene at ∼80° gives a 94% yield of diborane.
