Adhesively bonded assemblies with identical nondeformable adherends: modeling of the induced thermal stresses in the adhesive layer

E. Suhir1998-01-01Composite Interfaces

A thermoelastic problem for adhesively bonded assemblies with identical nondeformable adherends is considered. The objective of the analysis is to develop a simple stress model for the evaluation of thermally induced stresses and strains in the adhesive material due to its thermal expansion (contraction) mismatch with…

Anodization and Speciation of Magnesium in Chloride‐Rich Room Temperature Ionic Liquids

Joan Fuller、Richard T. Carlin、Robert A. Osteryoung 等 5 位作者1998-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Magnesium anodization was examined in room temperature :EMIC and :DMPIC ionic liquids, where EMIC = 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium chloride and DMPIC = 1,2‐dimethyl‐3‐propylimidazolium chloride. For all melts, the :organic chloride mole ratio was <1, yielding chloride‐rich ( i.e. , basic) compositions. The rate of magnes…

High-temperature adsorption of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon gases over nickel and platinum catalysts

S. David Jackson、Naseem Hussain、and Shona Munro1998-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Faraday Transactions

The high-temperature (573 K) adsorption of ethene, propene, propyne, carbon monoxide, and the high temperature co-adsorption of propyne–carbon monoxide have been studied over Pt/alumina and Ni/silica catalysts. The Pt catalyst was found to retain hydrogen from the reduction process, this hydrogen being released by eth…

Mass Transfer between Gases and High Viscosity Liquids on Rotating Cylinder with Surface Renewal Action.

Takafumi Shimada、Setsuo Omoto、Masami Kondo 等 4 位作者1998-01-01JOURNAL OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING OF JAPAN

In many polymer manufacturing processes, mass transfer operations between a high viscosity liquid and gases are applied, but mass transfer rates have been explained only using kLa. We measured kL for molten polystyrene and corn syrups by using a rotating cylinder with surface renewal action in which surface area was k…

Role of Interface Structure on Mechanical Properties of Fluorine-Doped Si3N4-SiC Ceramics

Hans‐Joachim Kleebe、Giuseppe Pezzotti、Toshihiko Nishida 等 4 位作者1998-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan

Changes in interface chemistry and, accordingly, in interface structure of a Si3N4-SiC ceramic, due to the presence of fluorine, was found to markedly affect the mechanical response of the material. Owing to a lowered cohesive interface strength, as a consequence of fluorine segregation at grain and phase boundaries,…

Machinability of High-Strength Porous Silicon Nitride Ceramics

Chihiro Kawai、Akira Yamakawa1998-01-01Journal of the Ceramic Society of Japan

A machinability of porous Si3N4 ceramics composed of columnar β-Si3N4 grains was evaluated by turning and milling with cemented carbide cutting tools to investigate a possibility of application of the porous Si3N4 to machinable ceramic use. The porosity and the flexural strength of specimens were about 43% and 270MPa,…

Key to the dynamics of the type of bubble collapse which is associated with such phenomena as sonoluminesence, and the emission of strong rebound pressures into the liquid, is the role of the liquid inertia. Following the initial formulation of the collapse of an empty spherical cavity, such collapses have been termed…

Overview of Flame Retardants Including Magnesium Hydroxide

Matthew D. Walter、M. Wajer、Magnesia Specialties1998-01-01OpenAlex

There are many classes of compounds which are useful as flame retardants. Inorganic minerals, organo-phosphates, and halogenated compounds are all commonly used for their ability to inhibit combustion and smoke generation in plastics and other materials. In 1993, United States industries consumed 810 million pounds of…
