Dispersions of electrically conducting polypyrrole particles in aqueous media

Steven P. Arms、Brian Vincent1987-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

Conducting polypyrrole particles in the size range 50–250 nm diameter have been prepared by a dispersion polymerisation route in aqueous media using FeIIICl3 as the initiator–dopant.

Fouling of heat transfer surfaces

Matthias Bohnet1987-01-01Chemical Engineering & Technology

Abstract Fouling and/or scaling of heat transfer surfaces causes serious problems in industry. Prevention of fouling is therefore essential for technical (considerable deterioration of heat transfer) and also economic reasons (increased costs). In order to provide successful countermeasures, it is, however, necessary…

Adhesion and Removal of Fine Particles on Surfaces

Madhav B. Ranade1987-01-01Aerosol Science and Technology

Particles on surfaces containing microelectronic circuits interfere with the circuit operation thus reducing product yield. Adhesion of particles to such surface as well as to other surfaces in production environments needs to be understood so that effective ways for preventing deposition and cleaning contaminated sur…

Numerical Studies of the Cahn-Hilliard Equation for Phase Separation

Charles M. Elliott、Donald A. French1987-01-01IMA Journal of Applied Mathematics

Phase separation in a binary mixture is described by the nonlinear evolutionary Cahn-Hilliard equation. In this paper, we discuss the physical background of the equation and describe its solution by the Galerkin finite element method. Some theoretical results are presented and computationally verified.

Atomic transport properties in UO2 and mixed oxides (U, Pu)O2

Hansjoachim Matzke1987-01-01OpenAlex

Atomic diffusion processes in UO2 and in the fast-breeder reactor fuel, (U, Pu)O2 are reviewed. Emphasis is given to the slower-moving species. i.e. U and Pu. Self-diffusion, chemical diffusion, diffusion in a thermal gradient, enhancement of diffusion by radiation and fission and the operative diffusion mechanisms ar…

Data Reduction and Error Analysis for Accurate Single Crystal Diffraction Intensities

R. H. Blessing1987-01-01OpenAlex

Principles and procedures of diffraction data processing are described. Reflection integration limits are obtained from a least squares analysis of peak profile widths, based on the principles of convolution synthesis of peak profiles. An approximate, empirical thermal diffuse scattering correction is obtained from a…

Dynamic state of collagen: pathways of collagen degradation in vivo and their possible role in regulation of collagen mass

G. Laurent1987-01-01OpenAlex

There is now evidence that collagen turnover in normal tissues can occur at rapid rates. In skin of adult rats, the mean rate lies between 3 and 5%/day, but rates of greater than 10%/day have been reported in some tissues, such as lung and periodontal ligament. The major sites of this degradation are still uncertain.…

Transgressive Stratigraphy at Sequence-Bounding Unconformities

Dag Nummedal、Donald J. P. Swift1987-01-01OpenAlex

Abstract: Sequence stratigraphic concepts are powerful tools in the analysis of the evolutionary history of sedimentary basins. The criteria used in the identification of depositional sequences differ for outcrop and subsurface data sets because of scale differences in stratal continuity and spatial resolution. This p…

Preparation of Small Samples for 14C Accelerator Targets by Catalytic Reduction of CO

Peter J. Slota、A. J. T. Jull、T W Linick 等 4 位作者1987-01-01OpenAlex

Graphite in various forms has become the standard target for accelerator 14 C dating. Graphite has been made by catalytic graphitization of charcoals (Lowe, 1984). Thin films of graphite have also been produced by thermal cracking (Beukens & Lee, 1981), electric discharge (Andrée et al , 1984; Wand, Gillespie &amp…

On the Equilibrium Thickness of Intergranular Glass Phases in Ceramic Materials

David R. Clarke1987-01-01OpenAlex

The fundamental question as to whether thin intergranular films can adopt an equilibrium thickness in polycrystalline ceramics is addressed. Two continuum approaches are presented, one based on interfacial energies and the other on the force balance normal to the boundary. These indicate that there will exist a stable…

Electronic properties of intercalation complexes of the transition metal dichalcogenides

Richard H. Friend、A. D. Yoffe1987-01-01OpenAlex

Intercalation of the layer type transition metal dichalcogenides by a variety of organic molecules, alkali metals, or ‘3d’ transition metals, provides a powerful way to finely tune the electron occupation of the relatively narrow ‘d’ bands met in these solids.
