A Spectroscopic Analysis of Chain Flexibility of Poly(lactic acid)

Xiaozhen Yang、Shuhui Kang、Shaw Ling Hsu 等 6 位作者2001-06-02Macromolecules

A Raman analysis was conducted to examine the disordered structures of poly(lactic acid). Simulated spectra were obtained for an ensemble of chains generated by several rotational isomeric state models. Analysis of the differences between simulated and experimental spectra showed that the rotational isomeric state rep…

Hiroshi Yasuda、Ikuo Kobayashi2001-06-02Radiation Protection Dosimetry

Optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) from Al2O3:C (ALOC) irradiated with selected heavy ions (4He, 12C, 40Ar, and 56Fe) was examined for discussion on the effectiveness of ALOC for space radiation protection dosimetry. The OSL efficiency on the absorbed dose basis was almost unity for He (LETinfinity x H2O: 2.2 keV…

Isabelle Bihannic、Laurent J. Michot、Bruno Lartiges 等 9 位作者2001-06-02Langmuir

A direct in-situ visualization of montmorillonite gels at 50 g/L has been obtained for the first time, using silicon fluorescence yield imaging at the ESRF ID21 X-ray microscopy line. An unexpected superstructure formed by alternating clay-rich and clay-poor domains was evidenced with mesoscopic orientational order. T…

A Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Study of the Effect of Hydration on the Microstructure of Flax Fibers

Owen M. Astley、Athene M. Donald2001-06-02Biomacromolecules

Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments with in situ dehydration have been performed on small bundles of flax fibers. Analysis indicated that the structure of the cellulose microfibrils is consistent with a cross section of approximately 10 x 50 A2. The microfibril misalignment was Gaussian with a full width a…

Plasmon resonant coupling in metallic nanowires

Jörg P. Kottmann、Olivier J. F. Martin2001-06-02OpenAlex

We investigate the plasmon resonances of interacting silver nanowires with a 50 nm diameter. Both non-touching and intersecting configurations are investigated. While individual cylinders exhibit a single plasmon resonance, we observe much more complex spectra of resonances for interacting structures. The number and m…

Investigation of CO and CO2 Adsorption on Tetragonal and Monoclinic Zirconia

K POKROVSKI、Kyeong Taek Jung、Alexis T. Bell2001-06-02OpenAlex

The adsorption of CO and CO 2 on tetragonal and monoclinic ZrO 2 was investigated using infrared spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption spectroscopy. For this study, samples were prepared of tetragonal ZrO 2 (t-ZrO 2 ) with surface areas of 20 and 187 m 2 /g and of monoclinic ZrO 2 (m-ZrO 2 ) with surface…

DEFORMATION TWINNING IN Bi-Sb CRYSTALS UNDER DYNAMIC INDENTATION

Rajesh C. Shah2001-06-01Surface Review and Letters

Bi–Sb single crystals (with Sb concentration varied up to 30 at. %) have been subjected to impact loading in the form of dynamic indentation on their (111) cleavage planes. The resulting mechanical twins are the theme of this report. The tensile and compressive stresses developed by the spherical indenter employed hav…

Features of the charge transfer in nanoporous silicon nd silicon oxide with adsorbed water

Elena Lukyanova、С. Н. Козлов、V. M. Demidovich 等 4 位作者2001-06-01Technical Physics Letters

The experimental plots of electric conductivity versus temperature for a porous silicon and a silicon oxide with adsorbed water exhibit features at temperatures significantly below 0°C, which are related to an ice-water phase transition in nanopores of the solid matrix.

Oxygen Plasma Preparation of Nickel Oxide Layers

Nizar Bellakhal、J. L. Brisset2001-06-01Journal of Chemical Research

Nickel oxide thin films form and grow when Nickel foils are exposed to an inductively coupled low pressure oxygen plasma. The resulting oxide (NiO) is identified by near-grazing X-ray diffraction and by FTIR specular reflectance spectroscopy methods. The thickness of the NiO layer increases with exposure time.

Water mains and distribution pipes in soil - external corrosion and protection methods

G. Camitz2001-06-01Water Science & Technology Water Supply

Extensive statistical investigations based on damage reports show that the corrosion damage frequency for buried water mains and distribution pipelines in Sweden increased during the 1970s and 1980s. For this reason, a number of statistical and technical investigations of the corrosion and counter-measures were carrie…

Kinetics of desorption from adsorbed layers formed by two-dimensional islands and by a two-dimensional gas

V. B. Bondarenko、M. Kuzmin、М. А. Митцев2001-06-01Physics of the Solid State

The kinetics of desorption from the adsorbed layers formed by two-dimensional (2D) islands and by a 2D gas of single atoms is considered for the case when the flux of adsorbate atoms from the gaseous phase reaches the surface. The effect of this flux on the desorption kinetics is analyzed. It is shown that this effect…

Core Loss Analysis of Non - oriented Electrical Steel Under Magnetic Induction Including Higher Harmonics

Chuhyun Cho、Derac Son、Youk Cho2001-06-01Journal of Magnetics

The actual magnetic induction waveform of cores in electrical machines is not sinusoidal i.e. higher harmonics are always included. Thus the core loss in actual electrical machines is different from the core loss which is measured by the standard method, because the waveform of magnetic induction should be sinusoidal…
