Effect of physico-chemical degradation of epoxy resin on partial discharge behavior

C. Hudon、R. Bartnikas、M. R. Wertheimer1995-12-01IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation

Epoxy resin coated electrode specimens were subjected to partial discharges (PD) in air at twice the discharge inception voltage for durations ranging to 5000 h. The PD behavior was characterized by a transition from initially large pulse type discharges (- 200 to 300 pC) to either small pulse (- 1 pC), pseudoglow, gl…

Superlow-Power Readout Characteristics of Photochromic Memory

Tsuyoshi Tsujioka、Minoru Kume、Masahiro Irie1995-12-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Readout characteristics have been investigated with a superlow-power readout method in order to solve the problem of information destruction caused by repeated readout operations in photon-mode photochromic memories. For ordinary photochromic diarylethene media, it was possible to read signals of about 10 5 –10 6 cycl…

Chiral polymethine dyes: A remarkable but forgotten conjugated π system

C. L. Reichardt1995-12-01Journal of Physical Organic Chemistry

Abstract Chiral polymethine dyes constitute a particular class of conjugated π systems. Artificial chiral polymethine dyes were first synthesized by König and Langbein in 1928 in order to clarify the electronic structure of cyanine dyes; some natural dyes such as musca‐aurin I (from the toadstool fly agaric) and betan…

Determination of the optical constants and thickness of thin films on slightly absorbing substrates

Rusli Rusli、G.A.J. Amaratunga1995-12-01Applied Optics

A method for solving the optical constants of a thin film on a slightly absorbing substrate is proposed. Using only a single-reflectance measurement together with the interference fringes, one can calculate with good accuracy the thickness and the real and imaginary parts of the refractive index of the film. Besides i…

Effects of Amplitude and Phase Mismatching Errors in the Generation of a Kinoform for Pattern Recognition

Ignacio Moreno、Juan Campos、Christophe Gorecki 等 4 位作者1995-12-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

A model to determine the influence of the phase and amplitude mismatching on the diffraction orders is proposed. The coupling between amplitude and phase in liquid crystal televisions (LCTV) is also considered. The effect on the impulse response of the nonlinearities is studied from experimentally determined amplitude…

Thermal fluctuations of the shapes of droplets in dense and compressed emulsions

Gang Hu、A. H. Krall、David A. Weitz1995-12-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

We generalize the theory of diffusing-wave spectroscopy (DWS) to include the effects of fluctuations of the amplitudes of the scattered fields. Thus DWS can be used to probe the internal dynamics of flexible particles. We study the thermally induced shape fluctuations of monodisperse emulsion droplets as a function of…

Synthesis, Thermotropic Behavior, and Permeability Properties of Vesicular Membranes Composed of Cationic Mixed-Chain Surfactants

Santanu Bhattacharya、Saubhik Haldar1995-12-01Langmuir

In order to elucidate the role of the linkage region that connects polar headgroups with hydrophobic segments in a lipid monomer, cationic mixed-chain amphiphiles containing acyl and alkyl hydrophobic segments connected at the level of Me(2)N(+) headgroups 2a-d were synthesized. Related dialkyldimethyl-ammonium ion su…

Sepiolite-Palygorskite from the Hekimhan Region (Turkey)

Hüseyin Yalçın、Ömer Bozkaya1995-12-01Clays and Clay Minerals

Abstract Upper Cretaceous-Tertiary marine clayey-calcareous rocks of the Hekimhan basin contain fibrous clay minerals in significant amounts. Ophiolitic rocks in the provenance area have contributed the elements to form the clay minerals. XRD, SEM, major, trace and REE analyses were applied to samples taken from sever…

Modeling the mechanical properties in polypropylene/polyamide‐6 blends with core shell morphology

Jocachim Rösch1995-12-01Polymer Engineering and Science

Abstract Polypropylene/Polyamide‐6 (PP.PA) blends containing maleic anhydride grafted elastomers were prepared by reactive blending. Three different types of core shell morphologies were obtained and characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The midulus of these elastomer midified PP/PA (70/30) blends w…

Growth kinetics of body centered cubic colloidal crystals

Michael Würth、Jürgen Schwarz、F. Culis 等 5 位作者1995-12-01Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics

A combination of static light scattering and video microscopy is used to perform high precision measurements on the growth velocity of body centered cubic (bcc) crystals in a metastable colloidal melt of monodisperse, highly charged latex spheres. The crystals nucleate heterogeneously at the walls of a flat flow-throu…

Phase behaviour and electro-optic characteristics of a polymer stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal

C. Allan Guymon、Erik N. Hogga、David M. Walba 等 5 位作者1995-12-01Liquid Crystals

The effects of adding a diacrylate monomer or its polymerized network to a ferroelectric liquid crystal have been characterized. The monomer lowers the temperatures of transition to the more ordered phases, whereas the polymer network phase separates into polymer rich and LC rich phases and has little effect on the LC…

Anti-Emetic Principles ofPoria cocos

Takaaki Tai、Yasuhiko Akita、Kaoru Kinoshita 等 6 位作者1995-12-01Planta Medica

The triterpenes isolated from P. cocos and their derivatives were examined for anti-emetic activity. Some of these triterpenes inhibited emetic action induced by oral administration of copper sulfate pentahydrate to leopard frog. The triterpenes having an exomethylene group at C-24 showed anti-emetic activity to frogs.

A mean-field model for semiflexible chains

Bae‐Yeun Ha、D. Thirumalai1995-12-01The Journal of Chemical Physics

We derive a mean-field model for a semiflexible chain using a functional integral approach. The resulting model satisfies the global constraint 〈u2(s)〉=1 rather than the hard constraint that u2(s)=1 for all s. The function u(s) is the tangent vector ∂r/∂s, where r(s) represents the conformation of the chain and s is t…
