After revision, the molecular weight of the subunit of Escherichia coli K12 aspartokinase I‐homoserine dehydrogenase I is 86000 ± 4000 instead of 60000 as previously published. The enzyme is a tetramer, not an hexamer. The electrophoretic homogeneity of the subunits, the number of unique sequences around cysteinyl and…

The intensity ratio of the 004 to the 002 diffraction line, I(004)/I(002), was measured for graphitizing C atoms, non-graphitizing C atoms, carbon blacks and a neutron-irradiated carbon. The values of I(004)/I(002) are different for different C atoms even when they have the same interlayer spacing d002. For example, a…

Contact angles have been measured using water drops of specified sizes, and in equilibrium with their vapor only, at their boiling point when residing on a copper surface at pressures ranging from 50–760 Torr.No appreciable change of contact angle with drop diameter was evident for sizes of 0.5 cm or more, but below t…
Certain samples of essential oils from Myoporum deserti , M. betcheanum , M. acuminatum , Eremophila maculata, and E. latrobei have been shown to contain myoporone and/or 10,ll-dehydromyoporone. The ambiguity regarding the stereochemistry of myoporone (previously known from M, bontioides) has been resolved,(-)-myoporo…
Dielectric and optical fatigue effects in 8/65/35 lanthana modified lead zirconate-lead titanate (PLZT) ferroelectric ceramics have been observed in respense to 60 Hz sine wave switching. Erratic behavior in Ee is attributable to microcracking near the surface electrodes. In addition, after N ∼ 105 cycles, the remanen…

Gallium is a metal that literally melts in your hand. It has low toxicity, near-zero vapor pressure, and a viscosity similar to water. Despite possessing a surface tension larger than any other liquid (near room temperature), gallium can form nonspherical ...Read More
Abstract Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques have been applied in a considerable number of experimental studies of molecular and atomic motion in solids. In most experiments designed to measure diffusion parameters, the power spectrum of the random variation of local magnetic dipolar fields is determined direc…

Abstract Magnetization mechanisms related to wall displacement and wall bulging are analyzed using a model previously proposed. In the case of the hysteresis loop, where both these combined mechanisms act, it is shown that the coercive force, the remanence and the shape of the loop, can be determined from the values o…

Using X‐ray diffraction techniques, thermal expansion and compressibility were measured on the orthorhombic compounds HfTiO 4 , Hf 1.26 Ti 0.74 O 4 , and ZrTiO 4 (both quenched and cooled slowly from 1300°C). The thermal expansion of HfTiO 4 is highly anisotropic; the thermal expansion coefficients along the crystallo…
Abstract The thermodynamics of metal/hydrogen systems are reviewed. Emphasis is placed on the thermodynamic properties of hydrogen dissolved in single solid phase regions. Methods of investigation are discussed. A brief survey of recent results on binary metal alloy/hydrogen systems is presented.
