As the largest CuS cluster known to date, [Cu12S8]4⊖ occupies a special position. It is the first copper(I) complex containing exclusively sulfidic ligands that has been isolated. The Ph4P salt is formed on reaction of CuCl2·2H2O with EtS⊖ and Li2S in the presence of Ph4PBr.
