A Peroxide Curing Butyl Rubber

C. E. Oxley、G. J. Wilson1969-09-01Rubber Chemistry and Technology

Abstract The reactions of peroxides with polymers have been studied for some time. They form an extensive part of vulcanization technology. Two types of reactions are generally recognized, those leading to crosslinking between polymer chains and those leading to scission of the chains. Natural rubber, polybutadiene an…

The mechanical properties, dislocation sub-structure and density in niobium single crystals deformed at high strain rates

J. W. Edington1969-09-01Philosophical magazine

Mechanical properties of single crystals of niobium have been measured in the strain-rate range 103-104 see−1 where flow is thermally activated and is probably controlled by the Peierls stress. Dislocation configurations and densities have been measured as a function of strain at strain rates of 6·5 × 103 sec−1 and 2·…

Phase Relations in the System Li 2 O.B 2 O 3 ‐B 2 O 3 ‐NiO

John S. Berkes、W.B. White1969-09-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Phase equilibria were determined by standard quench methods in binary systems NIO‐B 2 O 3 , the binary join Li 2 O.B 2 O 3 ‐NiO, and three other sections through the Li 2 O.B 2 O 3 ‐B 2 O 3 ‐NiO system. The only new compound observed was 2NiO.B 2 O 3 , which is stable from 1303° to 1480°C.

The AC magnetostriction of 3.25-percent grain-oriented silicon-iron under combined longitudinal and normal compressive stress

C. Holt、J.A. Robey1969-09-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

The ac magnetostriction of transformer sheet has been measured with longitudinal compression up to 2000 lbf/in2(13 800 kN.m-2). Longitudinal stress causes a sudden increase in magnetostriction, while normal stress smooths out the steplike change. Si-Fe sheet from three different manufacturers is shown to have widely v…

On the equivalence of dielectric and mechanical dispersions in poly(n-hexyl methacrylate)

S. Havriliak、S. Negami1969-09-01Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

Following the suggestion of Scaife that the complex polarizability data ought to be used for comparing dielectric dispersion data, we constructed the mechanical analogue of the complex polarizability. The parameters used to represent the relaxation data of poly( n -hexyl methacrylate) in the two forms were determined.…

Transition temperatures and structural correlations for cellulose triesters

A. F. Klarman、Andrea Galanti、L. H. Sperling1969-09-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract Six homologs of the cellulose triester series were found to exhibit, in general, three second‐order transitions as determined dilatometrically. A parallel study of torsional modulus versus temperature revealed one glass–rubber transition, which allowed molecular assignment of one of the above. The dependence…

Elasticity and structure of chemically crosslinked polyurethanes

Reijer Blokland、W. Prins1969-09-01Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2 Polymer Physics

Abstract A combination of electron‐microscopy, light‐scattering, and stress‐birefringence studies on chemically crosslinked polyurethanes point toward the existence of rodlike regions (“bundles”), approximately 3000–8000 Å in length and involving about 5% of the volume, in which molecular orientations are correlated.…

Effect of titanium compounds on thermooxidative properties of stabilized polypropylene

Jir̆i E. Kresta、J. Majer1969-09-01Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract The effect of titanium compounds on thermooxidation stability of stabilized polypropylene was studied. It was found that the presence of titanium compounds shortens the induction period of PP oxidation. This phenomenon is brought about by the thermal reactions of titanium compounds with antioxidants which tak…

MAGNETOSTRICTIVE GENERATION OF SURFACE ELASTIC WAVES

F. W. Voltmer、R.M. White、C. W. Turner1969-09-01Applied Physics Letters

Surface elastic waves have been generated at 60 MHz by magnetostrictive coupling in yttrium iron garnet (YIG). The transducers were evaporated aluminum meander lines. For a YIG plate with the (110) axis normal to the free surface and propagation along the (001) axis, maximum coupling occurred for the static field para…

Influence of the surface morphology on the melting of polymer crystals. I. Loops of random length and adjacent reentry

H. G. Zachmann、A. Peterlin1969-09-01Journal of Macromolecular Science Part B

A polymer crystal with a noncrystalline surface layer formed by chain loops of different lengths is considered. It is assumed that the length of each loop can be changed by longitudinal diffusion of the molecule through the crystal lattice. From the condition that the free energy of the system is minimum, the loop len…

Temperature dependence of rare-earth orthoferrite properties relevant to propagating domain device applications

F. C. Rossol1969-09-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics

The behavior of stable cylindrical domains, under variations in temperature, has been studied in a number of the rare-earth orthoferrites from the point of view of the need for temperature control when these materials are used in propagating domain devices. Fractional changes in domain diameter from -0.60 percent/°K i…

Dynamic Fracture Toughness of A533 Steel

P.B. Crosley、E. J. Ripling1969-09-01Journal of Basic Engineering

The fracture toughness of A533 steel at room temperature, 0 deg and −70 deg F, was evaluated with 1 and 2-in-thick contoured double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens. To establish the effect of rate on thickness requirements, and to assess the strain rate sensitivity of KIc both initiation and arrest toughnesses were me…

Correlations between blood compatibility and heparin adsorptivity for an impermeable isotropic pyrolytic carbon

Jack Bokros、V. L. Gott、L. D. La Grange 等 6 位作者1969-09-01Journal of Biomedical Materials Research

Abstract The influences of conditioning treatments and surface topography on the heparin adsorptivity and the thromboresistance of a high‐strength, impermeable, isotropic, pyrolytic carbon were investigated. The results of the adsorption studies indicate that the adsorption of heparin on such carbon surfaces is near t…

Magnetic semiconductors

C. Haas1969-09-01IEEE Transactions on Magnetics
