Spout States in the Selective Withdrawal of Immiscible Fluids through a Nozzle Suspended above a Two-Fluid Interface

Sarah C. Case、Sidney R. Nagel2007-03-14Physical Review Letters

In selective withdrawal, fluid is withdrawn through a nozzle suspended above the flat interface separating two immiscible, density-separated fluids of viscosities nu(upper) and nu(lower) = lambda nu(upper). At low withdrawal rates, the interface gently deforms into a hump. At a transition withdrawal rate, a spout of t…

Sequential Tunneling through Molecular Spin Rings

J. Lehmann、Daniel Loss2007-03-14Physical Review Letters

We consider electrical transport through molecules with Heisenberg-coupled spins arranged in a ring structure in the presence of an easy-axis anisotropy. The molecules are coupled to two metallic leads and a gate. In the charged state of the ring, a Zener double-exchange mechanism links transport properties to the und…

Crystallization in Hybrid Organic−Inorganic Materials Induced by Self-Organization in Basic Conditions

Bouzid Menaa、Masahide Takahashi、Plinio Innocenzi 等 4 位作者2007-03-14Chemistry of Materials

Hybrid organic−inorganic crystalline materials have been obtained from a simple solvent-free synthesis in highly basic conditions. The formation of an organized hybrid structure has been achieved for the first time via sol−gel without employing bridged organosilica precursors. 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, which…

Physisorption Kinetics in Carbon Nanotube Bundles

J. Burde、M. Mercedes Calbi2007-03-14The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

The kinetics of gas uptake on different regions of carbon nanotube bundles is investigated by means of a kinetic Monte Carlo scheme. A lattice-gas description is used to model the adsorption of particles on a one-dimensional chain of sites under two types of dynamics: (a) external kinetics, in which the chain is on th…

Pore size distributions in polyelectrolyte multilayers determined by nuclear magnetic resonance cryoporometry

Fabián Vaca Chávez、Monika Schönhoff2007-03-14The Journal of Chemical Physics

Polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) are thin films, which are assembled one molecular layer at a time, by alternatingly adsorbing polycations and polyanions making use of their attractive electrostatic interaction. Since the porosity of PEMs is one of the properties of major interest, in the current work the first pore…

Ligand‐Capped Pt Nanocrystals as Oxide‐Supported Catalysts: FTIR Spectroscopic Investigations of the Adsorption and Oxidation of CO

Holger Borchert、Daniela Fenske、Joanna Kolny‐Olesiak 等 6 位作者2007-03-14Angewandte Chemie International Edition

CO oxidation: The suitability of Pt nanoparticles capped with dodecylamine or hexanethiol ligands as oxide-supported catalysts was investigated by FTIR spectroscopy (see picture for the hexanethiol data). It is shown that CO can penetrate the ligand shell and that the Pt nanoparticles possess activity for CO oxidation.

Origin of Kaolin Deposits: Evidence From the Hisarcık (Emet-Kütahya) Deposits, Western Turkey

Ş. Ali Sayin2007-03-14DergiPark (Istanbul University)

Kaolin deposits, situated approximately 20 km south of Hisarcık, have been formed by the alteration of dacite and dacitic tuffs related to the Miocene volcanism associated with extensional tectonics. The Hisarcık kaolin deposits occur in the Kızılcukur, Ulaşlar and Kurtdere areas. Kaolinite is the only clay mineral as…

Measurement of the 3D Born-Oppenheimer Potential of a Proton in a Hydrogen-Bonded System via Deep Inelastic Neutron Scattering: The Superprotonic Conductor Rb 3 H ( SO 4 ) 2

Dirar Homouz、George Reiter、Juergen Eckert 等 5 位作者2007-03-14Physical Review Letters

We report the first direct measurement of the proton 3-D Born-Oppenheimer potential in any material. The proton potential surfaces in the hydrogen-bonded superprotonic conductor Rb(3)H(SO(4))(2) are extracted from the momentum distribution measured using Deep Inelastic Neutron Scattering (DINS). The potential has a si…
