Markus Sailer、Michael Nonnenmacher、Thomas Oeser 等 4 位作者2005-11-16European Journal of Organic Chemistry

Abstract 3‐Acceptor‐substituted and 3,7‐bisacceptor‐substituted phenothiazines can be synthesized in moderate to excellent yields through Suzuki cross‐coupling reactions between phenothiazin‐3‐yl pinacolyl boronates or phenothiazin‐3,7‐diyl bis(pinacolyl boronates) and electron‐deficient (hetero)aryl halides. The elec…

Impact of Branching on the Phase Behavior of Polymers

Gaurav Arya、Athanassios Z. Panagiotopoulos2005-11-16Macromolecules

We have studied the effect of branching on the solution phase behavior of branched homopolymers using grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations in conjunction with multihistogram reweighting and finite-size scaling analysis. The critical temperature ( T c ) and the ϑ temperature (ϑ) decrease as polymer branching…

Influence of polymer–filler interactions on retraction behaviors of natural rubber vulcanizates reinforced with silica and carbon black

Sung‐Seen Choi2005-11-16Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract In general, silica‐filled rubber compounds contain a silane coupling agent to improve the filler dispersion and polymer–filler interactions. The silane coupling agent modifies the silica surface and makes crosslinks between the rubber and the silica. Influence of the modification of silica on the retraction b…

Luis Ortega‐San‐Martín、Jon P. Chapman、Luís Lezama 等 8 位作者2005-11-16Journal of Materials Chemistry

The double perovskite of nominal composition Sr2FeTeO6 has been prepared by the freeze-drying method. Simultaneous Rietveld refinement of X-ray and high resolution D2B neutron diffraction data has shown it to have space group I12/m1 but with a significant degree of pseudo-tetragonal symmetry with a = 5.6080(3) Å, b =…

Strain Self-Sensing Property and Strain Rate Dependent Constitutive Model of Austenitic Shape Memory Alloy: Experiment and Theory

Hui Li、Chenxi Mao、Jinping Ou2005-11-16Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering

By using both the pseudoelasticity and strain self-sensing ability of shape memory alloy (SMA) material, an innovative smart SMA-based damper can be developed. This damper has comprehensive energy dissipation and strain self-sensing abilities (i.e., electric resistance versus applied strain relationship) simultaneousl…

Fabrication and characterization of biodegradable poly(propylene carbonate)/wood flour composites

Xiaowei Ge、Qingzeng Zhu、Yuezhong Meng2005-11-16Journal of Applied Polymer Science

Abstract Wood flour reinforced poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) composites were prepared by melt blending followed by compression molding. The effects of reinforcement on the morphology, static and dynamic mechanical properties, and thermal properties of PPC/wood flour composites were investigated. In terms of mechanic…

Sandra Rocha、Rumen Krastev、Andreas F. Thünemann 等 6 位作者2005-11-16ChemPhysChem

The adsorption of amyloid beta-peptide at hydrophilic and hydrophobic modified silicon-liquid interfaces was characterized by neutron reflectometry. Distinct polymeric films were used to obtain noncharged (Formvar), negatively (sodium poly(styrene sulfonate)) and positively charged (poly(allylamine hydrochloride)) hyd…

Polymer‐Reinforced, Aligned Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composites for Microelectromechanical Systems Applications

Weileun Fang、Huai-Yuan Chu、Wen‐Kuang Hsu 等 5 位作者2005-11-16Advanced Materials

Aligned multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT)–polymer composites are synthesized for use in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) applications. Indentation and bending tests reveal that the elastic modulus of the MWNT–MEMS devices is promoted by a factor of 20. Dynamic bending experiments show that MWNT–MEMS devices can…

Photocurrent Amplification at Carbon Nanotube–Metal Contacts

Der‐Hsien Lien、Wen‐Kuang Hsu、Hsiao‐Wen Zan 等 5 位作者2005-11-16Advanced Materials

The photocurrent produced at single-walled carbon nanotube–Zn contacts with zero bias is amplified by a factor of 4–7 upon application of a bias (see Figure). Between ± 0.5 mV biases, the ideality factor only deviates slightly, but at biases of larger magnitude, current amplification becomes nonlinear owing to charge…

CspA Regulates Pigment Production in Staphylococcus aureus through a SigB-Dependent Mechanism

Samuel Katzif、Eun Hee Lee、Anthony B. Law 等 5 位作者2005-11-16Journal of Bacteriology

We report that the cold shock protein CspA of Staphylococcus aureus is required for maximal production of pigment. Results from transcriptional studies revealed that loss of CspA resulted in decreased expression of genes needed for the biosynthesis of 4,4'-diaponeurosporene and the alternative sigma factor SigB.

Ghislain Schyns、Sébastien Potot、Yi Geng 等 6 位作者2005-11-16Journal of Bacteriology

In bacteria, thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) is an essential cofactor that is synthesized de novo. Thiamine, however, is not an intermediate in the biosynthetic pathway but is salvaged from the environment and phosphorylated to TPP. We have isolated and characterized new mutants of Bacillus subtilis that deregulate thiam…
