Synthesis of corrins. Part I. Nickel and cobalt 1,19-dimethylcorrin and 1,19-dimethyl-4,5-dihydrocorrin perchlorates

A. W. Johnson、William R. Overend1972-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Perkin Transactions 1

Condensation of dipyrromethane with 2-formyl-5-methylpyrrole yields, 1,19-dimethyl-1,19-dideoxybiladiene-ac dihydrobromide, which can be cyclised in the presence of nickel or cobalt ions to give the corresponding metal 1,19-dimethyltetradehydrocorrin salts. Hydrogenation of these salts under a wide variety of experime…

Eight-co-ordination. Part V. Tetracyanotetrakis(alkyl isocyano)-molybdenum(IV) and -tungsten(IV) : pseudo-cubic complexes

R. V. Parish、P. G. Simms1972-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The diamagnetic, nonelectrolytic complexes M(CN)4(CNR)4(M = Mo or W; R = Me, Et, Prn, Pri, But, or CPh3) give unexpectedly simple i.r. and Raman spectra in the C–N stretching region. On the basis of X-ray data for Mo(CN)4(CNMe)4, all the complexes are presumed to have dodecahedral configurations.

Calculation of Internal Stress of Steel Induced during Quenching

Yasutsugu Toshioka、Munemitsu Fukagawa、Yoshinori Saiga1972-01-01Transactions of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan

The quenching stress, which is due to thermal and transformation strains, was presented as afunction of change in lemjlerature distribution which was ilifluenced by quenching melhods and sizes of steels. i n Ihe slale rif sleels during quenching elastic fl arls were discriminated from plastic p aris on Ihe basis of th…

The crystal structure of 5-benzoyloxyoctaethylporphyrin. An example of a distorted porphyrin ring

M.B. Hursthouse、Stephen Neidle1972-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Chemical Communications

The X-ray structure determination of 5-benzoyloxyoctaethylporphyrin is reported; the porphyrin skeleton is significantly ruffled, with an alteration in geometry of the central ‘hole’, compared to that in porphyrin itself.

Electronic spectra of some post-transition-metal halide complexes

Peter Day、Richard H. Seal1972-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

The electronic absorption spectra of tetrahalide complexes of ZnII, CdII, HgII, and TlIII have been measured either in solution or as thin films. The effects of second-order spin–orbit coupling account satisfactorily for the observed band intensities and splittings. The one-electron transitions responsible for the low…

The kinetics and mechanism of the spontaneous alcoholysis of p-chlorophenyl isocyanate in diethyl ether. The association of alcohols in diethyl ether

Steven A. Lammiman、Rosemary S. Satchell1972-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Perkin Transactions 2

The self-association of four simple aliphatic alcohols in ether solution has been investigated. In the concentration range 0·1–1·2 mol dm–3 the principal polymer is in every case the dimer. At 25 °C the dimerisation constants K2(=[dimer]/[monomer]2) have the values 0·49, 0·71, 0·50, and 0·72 for MeOH, EtOH, PriOH, and…

Optical Materials Research

W. F. Parsons1972-01-01Applied Optics

There are eras in research when days are filled with excitement because unique materials are being produced and researchers "think what nobody else has thought" (Albert von Szent Gyorgyi). Such were the periods when many new optical glasses emerged from the laboratories of the Eastman Kodak Company and when the hot pr…

Oxidation State of Anodic Tantalum Oxide after Heat-Treatment

Gerhart P. Klein1972-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

During heat‐treatment of anodic in vacuum (10 −5 Torr) at temperatures in the range from 200° to 700°C oxygen exchange between the anodic oxide, the Ta substrate, and the atmosphere was observed. Galvanostatic reanodization experiments resulted in potential‐time (charge) curves which could be used to determine the oxi…

Grafting of cellulose and derivatives by means of diazonium salts

Cristofor I. Simionescu、Severian Dumitriu1972-01-01Journal of Polymer Science Part C Polymer Symposia

Abstract New amino aromatic esters and ethers of cellulose were synthetized. Then grafting processes were performed on these derivatives by using acrylic, methacrylic and N‐vinyl pyrolidone monomers. Finally, chemical structure and physicomechanical properties were determined. Industrial experiments proved the utility…

Oxygen Transport and Charge Storage in Calcium Orthovanadate

M. Sayer、H. Erdogan、Christopher D. Cox1972-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Electrolytic effects, crystal coloration, and charge storage observed when an electric field is applied to single crystals of calcium orthovanadate at temperatures above 700 °C are shown to be associated with oxygen migration and the creation of V 4+ centers in the crystal. The oxygen transport number is shown to be c…

Dielectric and Transport Properties of Insulating Films

J.C. Anderson1972-01-01Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology

By an insulating film we mean one which passes little or no electric current on the application of a voltage across it. If the film were a single crystal of pure material this would require it to have a bandgap of 2 eV or more, so that there would be few intrinsic carriers over a practical temperature range. In practi…

Generation and Propagation of Chloride-Pits on Rotating Stainless Steel Electrode in Acid Solution

Norio Sato、Tokio Nakagawa、Kiyokatsu Kudo 等 4 位作者1972-01-01Transactions of the Japan Institute of Metals

Anodic pit generation and pit growth of stainless steel at constant potential in a sulphuric acid solution containing chloride ion have been investigated by use of a rotating electrode. The electrode rotation makes the generation and growth of pits very stable and enables the pit generation frequency and the pitting c…
