Expressions for spin wave energies in normal and inverse spinel have been obtained which are exact to all orders in the spin wave momentum. These dispersion curves have been compared with existing experimental data on magnetite and good agreement found if the principal exchange interaction is taken to be 2.4\ifmmode\t…

A calculation of shielding of the crystal field from the 4f valence electrons in Pr3+ due to the polarization of the outer (5s)2(6p)6 shell by the crystal field is reported. The effect is shown to be a principal constituent to the discrepancy of the experimental and theoretical values of the crystal-field parameters.

The anomaly of thermal conductivity at the magnetic transition point observed in certain magnetic crystals has been treated theoretically using the correlation function expression for the thermal conductivity. The heat conduction by the spin system is shown to be negligible in the vicinity of the transition point. The…

The magnetostriction of single-crystal yttrium iron garnet (YIG) has been measured from 100 to 450\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K by a capacitative technique in which the sample dilatation shifts the resonant frequency of an oscillator, and by standard strain gauge methods. To analyze the data, the theory of magn…

Abstract Resonance fluorescence of recoil‐free γ‐rays from atomic nuclei depends on the state of the chemical bonding of the atoms. The latter influences the position of the energy level of the atomic nuclei, so that the energy required for excitation of resonance fluorescence is somewhat smaller or greater than the e…

The kinetics of hydrogenase from Clostridium pasteurianum and from Proteus vulgaris were studied by measuring the HD and D/sub 2/ produced when the enzyme catalyzes the exchange between H/sub 2/ and 100% D/sub 2/O. The ratio of D/sub 2/ to HD production depends on the enzyme concentration because the HD produced by th…
