The magnitude of the extinction coefficient and the shift on substitution show that the band at 16,200 cm–1 in the absorption spectrum of Fe(C5H5)2+, which formerly was attributed to a 3d–3d ligand-field transition, is due to a ligand-to-metal e1u→e2g charge-transfer transition.

Various barium orthoferrates over wide Fe 4+ concentrations were prepared and their magnetic properties were investigated. The hexagonal phase with large Fe 4+ concentration is ferromagnetic above the anomaly point. With increasing Fe 3+ , it tends to be antiferromagnetic. The cubictetragonal phases are paramagnetic w…

In our work we studied composites of poly(lactic) acid (PLA) and low density polyethylene filled with cellulose fibres. The studied composite materials were manufactured with a twin-screw extruder. The extruded compound was processed in to samples using compression moulding. The content of cellulose in polymer/cellulo…

Abstract The electronic band structures of PbS, PbSe, and PbTe have been calculated using the relativistic Green's function method. The choice of a relativistic atomic potential for Pb and of nonrelativistic atomic potentials for S, Se, and Te inthe muffin‐tin spheres results in similar band models for the lead salts.…

Attention is directed to the uncertain state-of-affairs surrounding the influence of plastic deformation on concommitant tracer-diffusivity in metals. We now offer some clarification of this elusive solid-state transport problem. It is concluded that strain-enhanced diffusion is a real phenomenon, and in fact, it can b…

Abstract We hope that the preceding presentation has made it clear that the glass transition is not a simple phenomenon, but a very complicated process which is still not understood in all of its ramifications. The nature of the glass transition temperature ( T g ), to begin with, has been the source cf considerable c…

Evaluation of fabrication procedures and operating life have indicated that moisture can play a major role in determining the performance of nematic liquid crystal displays based on the dynamic scattering mode (DSM) in anisylidene-p-aminophenyl-acetate. There is strong evidence that the presence of moisture promotes e…

Resistivity change as a function of electron irradiation near 8 °K and of annealing after irradiation has been measured on zirconium. Damage rates were measured as a function of incident electron energy from 0.70 to 1.9 MeV. A value of 24 eV for the displacement threshold energy was determined by extrapolation of the…

The electrochemical oxidation of guanine at the pyrolytic graphite electrode was investigated by linear and cyclic scan voltammetry between p H 0–12.5 and by controlled electrode potential electrolysis in aqueous 1M acetic acid solution. Guanine is oxidized by an initial potential determining attack at the double bond…

Preferential anodic dissolution of Zn from brass is examined from the point of view of the volume diffusion mechanism. Results from x‐ray investigations of partially dissolved γ‐brass (Cu 65 a/o (atomic per cent) Zn) and η‐brass [Cu 86 a/o Zn] specimens show the appearance of new, more Cu‐rich, intermediate and termin…

Abstract A study of the ratio of the glass temperature to the melting point of 132 polymers is described. The arithmetic mean of the ratio is 0·…
