Europium titanate has the cubic perovskite structure containing divalent Eu (7 μB) and tetravalent Ti. From magnetic measurements we find that EuTiO3 is one of the few antiferromagnetic materials with a positive θ (TN=5.3°K, θ=3.8°K). At 1.3°K the magnetic moment (σ) increases linearly with field to 10 kOe; above 14 k…

Unusual Nature of the Abrupt Magnetic Transition in FeRh and Its Pseudobinary Variants

J. S. Kouvel1966-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

Previous measurements of the critical temperature (Tcrit) for the first-order antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in FeRh as a function of magnetic field have established that the total entropy change at the transition (ΔS) is much larger than the estimated change in lattice entropy (ΔS)lat. This study has now…

J. A. Dally、W. F. Riley、Roscoe Guernsey1966-03-01OpenAlex

THIS BOOK gives an introduction to the hydrodynamics of inviscid fluids and is, after the preliminary chapters, mainly concentrated on two-dimensional motions. There is a full treatment of the general two-dimensional motion of an immersed cylinder with particular reference to the flow past a thin airfoil and past an in…

Some Properties of Ferromagnetoelectric Nickel-Iodine Boracite, Ni3B7O13I

E. Ascher、H. Rieder、Heinz Schmid 等 4 位作者1966-03-01OpenAlex

Ferroelectricity and weak ferromagnetism have been found to set on simultaneously in Ni3B7O13I at about 64°K. This is evidenced by dielectric hysteresis, spontaneous Faraday effect, quadratic magnetoelectric hysteresis, etc. The strong coupling between the mutually perpendicular spontaneous polarization—[001]—and spon…

The Solubility of Intramuscular Collagen in Meat Animals of Various Ages

F. M. Hill1966-03-01OpenAlex

SUMMARY The percentage of total intramuscular collagen solubilized by heating in 1/4‐strength Ringer's solution, muscles from 98 cattle, 15 sheep, and 9 pigs at 77°C for 1 hour decreased as chronological age increased. Total intramuscular collagen was high in very young (8‐9 weeks) bo vines and in two of the three ver…

Direct Evidence for the Cathodic Depolarization Theory of Bacterial Corrosion

Warren P. Iverson1966-02-25Science

Cathodic depolarization of mild steel by Desulfovibrio desulfuricans was demonstrated with benzyl viologen used as an electron acceptor. Direct measurement of the cathodic depolarization current indicated a maximum current density of 1 microampere per square centimeter. Aluminum alloys were also cathodically depolariz…

Hydrogen permeation in metals as a function of stress, temperature and dissolved hydrogen concentration

W. Beck、J. O apos m. Bockris、J. McBreen 等 4 位作者1966-02-22Proceedings of the Royal Society of London A Mathematical and Physical Sciences

Abstract An investigation of the diffusion of electrolytic hydrogen through membranes of: (1) polycrystalline Armco iron; (2) single crystal Armcoiron; (3) zone refined iron; and (4) A.I.S.I. 4340 has been made. The temperature and stress dependence of the permeation rate through (1) and (4) was investigated, while (1…

Crystal Structure by Neutron Diffraction and the Antiferroelectric Phase Transition in Copper Formate Tetrahydrate

Kenkichi Okada、M. I. Kay、D. T. Cromer 等 4 位作者1966-02-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

The hydrogen positions in the crystal structure of copper formate tetrahydrate have been determined, and some new data on the antiferroelectric phase transition at −38.9°C are presented. It is shown that the orientation of the water molecules is disordered in such a way as to permit all possible short 0–0 contacts to…

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance of Oxygen on ZnO and Ultraviolet-Irradiated MgO

Jack H. Lunsford、John P. Jayne1966-02-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

A study has been made of the interaction of oxygen with samples of zinc oxide and ultraviolet-irradiated magnesium oxide using electron paramagnetic resonance techniques. Adsorption of oxygen at room temperature results in the rapid formation of a radical species, having gxx=2.077, gyy=2.0011, and gzz=2.0073 for oxyge…

Relationship Between Magnetic Curie Points and Cell Sizes of Solid Solutions with the Ordered Perovskite Structure

Francis S. Galasso、Frank C. Douglas、Robert J. Kasper1966-02-15The Journal of Chemical Physics

A study of Ba2xSr2–2xFeMoO6 solid solutions with the ordered perovskite structure showed that their Curie points increased nonlinearly as the amount of strontium increased while their cell sizes decreased with greater quantities of strontium. By substituting calcium for strontium in Sr2FeMoO6 a decrease in Curie point…

Mobility of Polarons

G. D. Mahan1966-02-11Physical Review

The dc mobility of electrons is considered for scattering by acoustical and optical phonons. It is shown that the vertex terms (ladder diagrams) in the mobility integral can be partially summed to all orders of perturbation theory. These vertex terms are shown to be important for acoustic-phonon scattering. The sum of…

Classification of proteins according to conformation

B. Jirgensons1966-02-09Die Makromolekulare Chemie

Abstract On the basis of optical rotatory dispersion data and other evidence, it was attempted to classify the proteins according to the conformation of their polypeptide chains. Three large groups of globular proteins emerge: 1. proteins with a high α‐helix content, 2. proteins with a low α‐helix content, and 3. the…
