Abstract The crystal structure of isotactic poly(vinyl methyl ether) has been defined on the basis of x‐ray fiber spectra. Isotactic poly(vinyl methyl ether) crystallizes in a rhombohedral unit cell whose constants referred to hexagonal axes are: a = b = 16.25 ± 0.15 A., c = 6.50 ± 0.05 A. (chain axis) Z = 18, d calc…

Abstract N ‐Alkyl‐substituted polyamides and copolyamides have been prepared from N , N ′‐dialkyl p ‐xylenediamine and N , N ′‐dialkyl hexamethylenediamine with long‐chain aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. Crystalline N ‐alkyl polyamides were obtained by the use of dicarboxylic acids higher than C 16 . The melting point v…

The kinetics of dehydroxylation of crocidolite have been studied in vacuo. The kinetic data may be interpreted in terms of a diffusion-controlled reaction based on radial diffusion out of a cylinder. The activation energy for the process is 49 kcal/mole.

Abstract Thermal degradation processes are of great importance in the case of polyoxymethylene. Establishment of the mechanism of oxidative decomposition is particularly important, because it proceeds under conditions when depolymerization is predominant over oxidation. The basic kinetic regularities of thermal and th…

The rates of dissolution of carbon from the rotating or stationary graphite rods into liquid Fe-C alloy were studied in the temperature range 1270-1550°C.It was concluded that the dissolution process was controlled by mass-transfer in the liquid.Applying non-dimensional correlation of mass-transfer under the forced co…

Abstract Circulating hydrogen‐oxygen mixtures were reacted at atmospheric pressure in a single long porous catalyst cylinder which contained a thermocouple‐micromanometer probe. Rate and temperature rise data were obtained at 20°, 30°, 50°, and 60°C. in the concentration range 0 to 5% oxygen in hydrogen. The data were…

Abstract Research on the kinetics of crystallization of polycarbonates based on bisphenol A at 190°C. has been carried out on six polydisperse samples. It was found that the process of crystallization, after a long period of induction, follows a course which can be described by the classical equation of Avrami. The fi…

The small, but often significant, voltage ratio error of a ratio transformer is caused by leakage of magnetic flux and the flow of displacement currents around the windings. A model of the flux leakage pattern within a toroidal transformer is used in conjunction with an analysis of the effect of interwinding capacitan…
