Ionic Conductivity of Lithium Orthosilicate—Lithium Phosphate Solid Solutions

Yaw Wen Hu、I. D. Raistrick、Robert A. Huggins1977-08-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Lithium ion conductivity in solid solutions formed between and has been measured as a function of temperature and composition using a‐c techniques. Highest conductivities were found at 50 and 60 mole percent (m/o) phosphate. Empirical conductivity parameters are presented and qualitatively analyzed in terms of structu…

On the absorption of dislocations by grain boundaries

R.C. Pond、D. A. Smith1977-08-01Philosophical magazine

A lattice dislocation may lower its elastic energy by dissociation in a high angle grain boundary. The absorption process involves the separation of the product grain boundary dislocations at a rate limited in general by climb and their interaction with any pre-existing network. This description of the absorption proc…

Electronic Structure of Catalytic Metal Clusters Studied by X-Ray Photoemission Spectroscopy

M. G. Mason、L. J. Gerenser、S. -T. Lee1977-08-01Physical Review Letters

Pd and Pt clusters on carbon substrates have been studied by x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). Variations in valence- and core-level spectra with cluster size have been observed. Single-atom centers appear to exist in the ${d}^{9}{s}^{1}$ configuration. The $d$-electron count increases with cluster size, and in…

Corrigenda - Ionic adsorption on variable charge mineral surfaces. Theoretical charge development and titration curves

JW Bowden、AM Posner、JP Quirk1977-08-01Soil Research

A completely general theory is presented which can be used to describe both anion and cation adsorption on amphoteric oxide surfaces. It takes account of the fact that both the surfaces and adsorbing species are charged and that the surfaces change their charge when ionic adsorption takes place. The theory is applicab…

Molecular diffusion and solubility of hydrogen isotopes in vitreous silica

James E. Shelby1977-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

Deuterium permeation, diffusion, and solubility measurements have been made for several types of vitreous silica at temperatures ranging from 0 to 800 °C. The activation energies for permeation and diffusion were found to be somewhat temperature dependent. Isotope exchange between structural hydroxyl and the diffusing…

Non-Ohmic Properties of ZnO-Rare Earth Metal Oxide-Co3O4Ceramics

Kazuo Mukae、Kouichi Tsuda、Ikuo Nagasawa1977-08-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

Zinc oxide ceramics containing rare earth metal oxide and cobalt oxide which exhibit non-ohmic current-voltage characteristics were studied. The nonlinearity was similar to that of the zinc oxide varistor containing Bi 2 O 3 and other additives. According to microstructural observations, the intergranular layer of the…

Electron excitation and the optical potential in electron microscopy

R. H. Ritchie、A. Howie1977-08-01OpenAlex

A theory for inelastic scattering of fast electrons in solids is developed, based on an extension of the theory of scattering in an electron gas. Values of the inverse mean free path and related optical potential can be computed quite conveniently. It appears that, particularly in the case of solids characterized by h…

Isolation of an iron-molybdenum cofactor from nitrogenase

Vinod K. Shah、Winston J. Brill1977-08-01OpenAlex

A method for the isolation of an iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMoCo) from component I of nitrogenase is described. This method is used to isolate FeMoCo from aerobic, anaerobic, facultative, and photosynthetic nitrogen-fixing organisms. The Fe/Mo ratio in the FeMoCo from Azotobacter vinelandii and Clostridium pasteurian…

X-ray photoemission spectroscopy studies of Sn-doped indium-oxide films

John C. C. Fan、John B. Goodenough1977-08-01OpenAlex

The In and Sn 3d3/2 and 3d5/2 ESCA peaks and the oxygen 1s peak of Sn-doped In2O3 films were compared with those for In2O3 films and In2O3, SnO, SnO2, and Sn3O4 powders. Comparison of as-grown with sanded surfaces revealed Sn-rich surface layers in.those films having good optical and transport properties. These experi…

Band structures and Fermi surfaces for 1T-TaS 2 , 1T-TaSe 2 and 1T-VSe 2

A M Woolley、G Wexler1977-07-28Journal of Physics C Solid State Physics

Band structures and Fermi surfaces are presented for three quasi-octahedral layer compounds. The dependence of both properties on the component k z of the wavevector normal to the layers is shown to be important particularly in its effect on the formation of charge density waves. Whereas the nesting of the Fermi surfa…

Richard S. Crandall、Brian W. Faughnan1977-07-25Physical Review Letters

T. Shimada、Keisuke Kobayashi、Yoshifumi Katayama 等 4 位作者1977-07-18Physical Review Letters

At both the cubic-rhombohedral phase-transition temperature ${T}_{c}$ and the zero-gap temperature ${T}_{b}$, anomalous increases in Raman intensities are observed in ${\mathrm{Pb}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Sn}}_{x}\mathrm{Te}$ (for $x=0\ensuremath{-}1$) single crystals. These are attributed to Raman scattering enha…

Magnetic-Field Dependence of the Order Parameter in a Nematic Single Crystal

Y. Poggi、J.C. Filippini1977-07-18Physical Review Letters

Results on the magnetic-field dependence of the order parameter in a nematic single crystal are reported for the first time: The induced birefringence of a nematic single crystal of 4\ensuremath{'}-$n$-heptyl-4-cyanobiphenyl was found to vary linearly with the magnetic field as predicted by the fluctuation theory.

Superconductivity of the Linear Trichalcogenide NbSe3under Pressure

P. Monçeau、J. Peyrard、J. Richard 等 4 位作者1977-07-18Physical Review Letters

We show that the linear compound Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ becomes superconducting under pressure. We have measured the initial slope of the magnetization of Nb${\mathrm{Se}}_{3}$ as a function of pressure down to temperatures as low as 50 mK. A very small pressure is necessary in order for the superconductivity to occur.…

In pure titanium deformed at room temperature, a broad internal friction peak centred at −102 °C (Pd), a subsidiary peak at −140 °C (P′d) and a small hump at −50 °C (Pα) are observed at 1 Hz. On subsequent annealing, the heights of these peaks decrease monotonously over the temperature range from 50 to 200 °C, and to…

Doping of VO2 thin films by ion implantation

K.‐D. Ufert1977-07-16physica status solidi (a)

To dope VO2 thin films ion implantation is used and compared with other doping technologies. Argon, boron, and phosphorus are chosen as doping materials. The influence of doping on the resistance—temperatur dependence of the VO2 thin films is measured in different annealing states after implantation. Doping with P-ion…
